Bashir sets the tray down on a nearby table and starts to turn to leave.

GARAK Before you go, Doctor, let me just say that I'm very sorry if I've caused you any embarrassment.

BASHIR No, no, it's fine. I just didn't expect to see you here.

GARAK Yes, well, it was a pleasant surprise for me as well.

BASHIR Uh, right. Well, I should be going.

GUL DUKAT I'm trying to protect an innocent Cardassian citizen on this station!

COMMANDER SISKO The attackers will be brought to justice.

GUL DUKAT Not real justice! No Bajoran court would convict them!

COMMANDER SISKO You’re right. Under the circumstances, let us see about having a Federation court take jurisdiction on the case. I’ll contact the Bajoran Ministry of Justice.

GUL DUKAT (reluctantly) Very well.

Dr. Bashir is tending to Garak, who is lying in a bed. His face is battered and bruised.

Quark walks away, his smirk still in place.

INT. QUARK’S BAR - LATER

Quark walks up to Damar, who is sitting alone at the bar.

QUARK I’ve been thinking, Legate.

DAMAR (sighing) Yes, Quark?

QUARK I think you and Leeta are having an affair.

DAMAR (angrily) What?!

QUARK And I think if you don’t give me five hundred strips of gold-pressed latinum, I’ll tell everyone on the station.

DAMAR (stands up) You’re out of your mind, Quark!

QUARK Think about it, Legate. Your reputation would be ruined. Word travels fast. Messing around with a Bajoran? No one in the Cardassian military would respect you. Dukat can get away with it, but you? I don’t think so.

DAMAR (angrily) I’m going to forget this ever happened.

QUARK (smug) I don’t think so. So, about my latinum...?

DAMAR If you keep this up, I’ll have you arrested. Or worse!

QUARK (shocked) You can’t do that!

DAMAR Watch me.

Damar walks away, leaving Quark alone and frustrated.

QUARK Odo, have a seat. I want to talk to you about something.

ODO What is it, Quark?

QUARK I want to shut down the Vic Fontaine holosuite program.

ODO Why?

QUARK Because my bar is losing too much business to Vic's hologram bar.

ODO I see. And how do you propose to shut down the program?

QUARK I was hoping you could help me with that, Odo.

ODO Me? What can I do?

QUARK You have friends in high places. I was hoping you could talk to them and get the program shut down.

ODO I'm not sure that's possible, Quark.

QUARK Please, Odo. I'm desperate. My bar is going to go under if something isn't done about Vic Fontaine.

ODO I'll see what I can do, Quark. But I can't make any promises.
