Do you think a robot could do my job?
Last Week Tonight S06E03: "Automation" (aired 3 March 2019)
Meet Monsieur Plant. It is a robot equipped with artificial intelligence that stands before us, not as a cold, autonomous entity, but as a body traversed, inhabited, and transformed by nature. Its clothing subverts contemporary codes: Baggy pants and a loose-fitting sweatshirt, both made of plant-based foam. Clothing, a cultural and social symbol, becomes an extension of life.
I don't care what they say, this thing is creepy. At the heart, an opening reveals an unexpected interior: Not metallic circuits, but an intertwining of earth, roots, and organic matter. He explores the link between nature and technology, says artist Christophe Guinet.
Acting as a symbolic antenna, it captures not only satellite signals but also suggests another form of connection: Communication between Earth and the cosmos, between the biological and the digital. This is just weird. Can you imagine coming across this thing in the woods?

Her killer robot protectors.
So those digs from Melissa back in May were aimed at Jenna because…how are you going to back out of a movie in solidarity of your friend only to be in another movie that is backed by the same company that fired your friend in which it was the movie you backed out of for?
I'm sure she'll come out with some bullshit "we didn't know/they joined production after I was contracted" etc.
But agreed...this is a terrible look for her. I'm afraid her credibility was just flushed down the Taika toilet. Not to mention all of the complaints about the tone. They're going to sell this as a quirky comedy when I'm sure the tone does carry some of the heavy weight of the book.
Some of the stans are happy though because her Pretty Privilege is still in play here. She's "cute", and that's all the gooners care about.
I swear to the gods though, Ishiguro watched Better Than Us and wrote his little floral Japanese take on AI robot house helpers. I loved that show, and I loved Paulina Andreeva as Arisa. Y'all should check it out sometime. Arisa deserved better, BTW. The ending PMO 😤
those ai robots from siliconversations but they are age regressing and sleeping with plushies

“The challenge is not to act automatically. It's to find an action that is not automatic. From painting, to breathing, to talking, to fucking. To falling in love... And for the record, Ava's not pretending to like you. And her flirting isn't an algorithm to fake you out. You're the first man she's met that isn't me. And I'm like her dad, right? Can you blame her for getting a crush on you?”
