friend of mine just dragged me into watching Dandadan.... I may or may not like a certain cursed form of some guy
Dana at it again with another banger
I just started watching a show called deadloch and while there is a fandom presence I am SHOCKED more people didn't go crazy about it. so i am left to assume to u just didn't know about it. so here is a sales pitch; murder mystery!! the first line of the show is "his dick is on fire". the buddy comedy with messy cringefail protagonists except they're girls you've been waiting for. mid 40s lesbian drama. dark humor. a naughty seal that everyone thinks eats human flesh. small town petty feuds and nosy neighbors. chaotic detective who refuses to wear regulation uniform and instead stomps around in an unwashed hawaiian shirt
IRON LUNG SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!
One thing I see on Tumblr is people pointing out details that I NEVER noticed. It is AMAZING, lowk makes me feel kind of stupid, and sososossossooooooo interesting. But like I said, I noticed none of this. I think this is because I didn't view iron lung as. A movie?? Let me explain. When I watched it in theaters, I was instantly invested, but not in the way I usually am. I love surreal horror. The Shining, Emesis Blue, etc etc. I'm CONSTANTLY searching for parallels and references and implications in the writing, but not when I watched Iron Lung. When I watched Iron Lung, I was just watching Simon. I was watching a man navigating a situation. I zoned out completely when I watched this movie, and I think I had to remind myself multiple times that "No, that's Markiplier playing his character." That's not even an exaggeration, I was SO (don't clown on me for this guys) immersed in this movie. That's the convict. That's simon. That's a Dude. I watched him wipe the blood on his trousers, sweat begin to form on his skin before the heat was even obvious or plot relevant, the cracks in his voice, the state of his clothes and hair, the way he adapted to his situation, how his voice begins to break but he refuses to cry, how he says "I don't think I want to talk anymore," his anger, among other traits. But I don't even think "traits" is the right term. I didn't see separate parts thrown together to make a character like so many other movies where they'd make those traits so emphasized and pointed. They flowed together. It felt like meeting a new person. Same with Ava's, actually. Her moral ambiguity felt so human, that, as the single time we see her face, she felt extremely fleshed out. They were desperate people in a harsh situation. I can't even put this post into words I feel are accurate, because as I type this, I don't think I COULD. You can't summarize an entire persons actions or personality. You can't summarize all of their thoughts or feelings that are made so clear in Iron Lung. The way I describe them feels flat compared to how they're actually shown.
Seeing other analysis' on this movie, I think a lot of others had the same view. I never see people talk about Mark's acting when talking about how Simon reacts to things in the movie. I see them mention SIMON. I see them talk about HIS trauma. His little movements. The way from the slightest action you can tell what he's thinking. I don't see people talking about how Mark wrote him to be. Simon is so human, and it is SO impressive and SOOOO fitting for a movie about humanity itself, the cruelty of something being "bigger than you," how much that's said in our society, and how desperate people are. Oughhhhhhh I love this movie I'm going to go insaneee
