I went to write "stimboard" but stopped at "stimbo" and now so have some thoughts:

Bilbo ADHD Baggins (it's canon and you know it, don't be a coward)

His stims are generally pretty small and/or calm

ie: the nose wiggle a stim I also do

But it's mostly a product of masking as best as he can due to the gossip of Hobbiton (*cough cough lobelia cough cough*)

He also vocally stims by humming, which is half the reason why he comes up with so many songs and bits of poetry

(How we feeling about that handkerchief scene, with this in mind?)

After he joins the company, they obviously notice

If they know about the nervous system then I'm sure they know at least enough about ADHD/ADD to be like "oh hey-"

After a while (as they get closer to him) the dwarves read: Bofur give him the nickname "Stimbo Baggins"

He acts annoyed each and every time

but those drumming fingers don't lie

he loves it

and he loves that they don't make fun of him for his behavior, nor do they try to "fix" him

if anything, they subtly encourage him to do it more often

especially after a very stressful event

they mostly do this by copying one/some of his stims

and then his brain does the rest

bagginshield moment where Bilbo and the durin boys all bond over being neurodiverse

and explaining how neurodiversity works

(that's mostly because I saw this one autistic!thorin headcanon, and I think an ADHD!kili one?)

kili and bilbo bonding moments where kili slowly shares his experiences with having adhd, along with all the little tips and tricks his mother and uncle taught him

he teaches bilbo a bunch of neat tricks that actually end up being of huge help

bilbo and thorin stimming in their own little ways because they just love each other sm (*glares at bagginshield haters*) and cause this happy stim chain

A concept: Bilbo using He/They pronouns

Growing up Bilbo always felt slightly disconnected to being a male hobbit

But not a lady (he was quite alright not being a lady, thank you kindly)

He just- wasn't quite there, it seemed

So he kinda just played it off as some odd Took-ish thing and never spoke about it

That was back when he was 26 or so

For a while he'd forgotten about that thought- going about his life as a hobbit should

But the dwarves put an end to that

Per usual

The dwarrow folk, like elves, have a more complex view of gender than Men and Hobbits

There are lads, and lasses- but there's also those who are both and/or neither

As a society this is a pretty common experience, their AGAB not meaning much except for medical treatments

So you could also say that assuming the identity of another dwarf was very rude

So, as a baseline, one would refer to another as "they" until toldl otherwise

("Their skillset is unmatched!" "Her is just fine, and thank you!")

When the company meets Bilbo, they go by the same principles they've been taught their whole lives

And refer to him as "they"

Now I'm not saying this awoke a long forgotten crisis

But that's exactly what I'm saying

Especially since he enjoyed the newfound pronoun

It took him a while gather up the courage to ask them about Dwarves view on gender (Gandalf briefly mentioned it was much different than how hobbits saw it)

But the company was very patient with him as they explained it all, and he eventually opened up about enjoying being called "they"- but not knowing where to go from there

It wasn't like he disliked being reffered to as "he", not in the slightest!

Despite this new viewpoint, he still identified with it pretty heavily

That's when (oh hoho-) Nori spoke up

Some Dwarrows liked having multiple sets of pronouns. Others, like himself, preferred to just go by their names

Bilbo mulled over this for quite a while- possiblg even a week or two

But eventually he admitted that he/they pronouns were something he enjoyed

And the Dwarves helped him gain confidence in that throughout the journey

💜 headcanon to celebrate 300

Hello lovely! Hope you enjoy it <3

Most of the journey from the Shire over to Erebor brought the company through the woods

And where there are woods, there are herbs, nuts, berries, and other forageable items

Like Mushrooms

Now, hobbits thrive off of said forageable items

Probably even more than any other race on Middle Earth

So it would make sense that they have all sorts of immunities to natural poisons

During the journey, Bombur would ask Bilbo to go see if there was anything they could forage that would spice up the food- make it seem less like the same thing every day.

Bilbo figured this was because they didn’t really see him fit to do any of the other camp-setting duties, and made sure he found only the best of what could be found

Bombur actually just didn’t trust any of the others to gather for him. Between receiving things that weren’t ripe, practically rotten, and Fili+Kili being the little shits they were, Bombur opted to go for the little creature who surely took food just as seriously as he did

The environment he was foraging in was always different, Bilbo realized, and it took a lot of deep thought to remember what his books said about each area.

But one day, when he found mushrooms, he knew exactly what to look for

His harvest was plentiful on all accounts, and he was beyond ecstatic. He’d found some of the tastiest mushrooms known to hobbits, and couldn’t wait to see Bombur’s excitement

However, when he got back to camp, he got a- louder reaction than he’d anticipated

Dwarves had blocked him from the stew pot, foreign words spilled into his ears, and Gandalf’s bag (which he so courteously let Bilbo borrow) was tossed to the side

It was over as quick as it was started, and Bilbo was left to pick up the bag, pout present and good mood swept away. Maybe one of them had an allergy?

It wasn’t unheard of, being allergic to something as common as food

So he shrugged off his sour mood, and decided he wouldn’t let them go to waste

He was halfway through the bag when he realized the camp had gone quiet, and saw that all of the Dwarves had grown solemn. Fili, Kili, and Ori looked on the brink of tears, and Thorin’s face was ghost-white

Bofur came to his side, and sat with him, leaning against him with little sniffles.

Gandalf refused to look at any of them, coughing from the smoke of his pipe

After lots of coxing, and no little amount of Baggins sass, the dwarves explained that what he’d eaten was one of the most poisonous mushrooms on Middle Earth. Just one half of its cap was enough to kill you. Ori even provided him a book full of poisonous plants to avoid, and there it was: his beloved mushroom.

Now, the dwarves expected him to pale, to faint as he had at Bag End; to cry, even.

They didn’t expect him to start laughing

“Mushrooms? Poisonous? Do you even know what Poisonous means? Are you speaking Westron?” Bilbo had cackled

It took a long, tedious explanation from Gandalf to make the Dwarves realize that to Hobbits, no plant was deadly. The very notion was unheard of!

In fact, the more poisonous it was to other races, the more delicious it tasted to them.

From then on, Bombur had to double-check Bilbo’s harvest as the hobbit learned from Ori which ones the Dwarves had to avoid
