Seriously. If there is another Airdot Con next Year, I am dressing my wheelchair up as GERTI and going no matter what.
Is it still realistic enough for this to happen? I'd love to prepare my plans for summer according to whether or not this will ever happen sometime next year but it's been very quiet around here?
From a logistical standpoint--meaning willingness, finances, etc.--the con is still very much viable. However, I'm the only person willing to devote the time needed to get it done at this point, and I've been exceedingly busy with academics this summer and will be next year as well. While a lot of people have expressed interest in helping, much of this needs to be done with people I already know and trust before I can include others. I'm also trying to be much more cautious after this summer, to serve as a reminder that not all first-year cons are successful and that coordination is incredibly important. I won't start AirdotCon until I'm confident that it has the tools it needs to be successful, but please be assured that I do want it to happen.
Hello! I wondered if you could tell me a little bit about Airdot Con and your organisation. Is it still happening or are you all too busy? Do you have any lists of what to do and have you already contacted hotels about prices etc.? :)
Sure thing.
I'm aiming for summer 2015. I'm pretty much decided it will be in Atlanta for several very good reasons, so I'm sticking to that location, and I have been looking for hotels. I haven't contacted them about prices just yet, because I'm still figuring out the best date to have the con. (Working around my own life and other related cons is a big pain.)
It's a little overwhelming because I am now the only one organizing this, and while it's great to have people volunteer to help here and there (or at the con itself), what I really need is (at least one) someone to commit fully to planning help. I can't do this alone.
However, on the positive side, a few key issues we were facing have been more or less made null, so this is going to be easier than I had thought. I still need solid help when it comes to finding hotels, coordinating panels and panelists, sorting out administrative necessities, and a lot of other boring stuff, though, and everyone is pretty busy with their own lives to devote the kind of time and work this kind of thing requires.
Bottom line: I'm still going forward with this. I need a lot of help, but I'll drive myself into the ground getting this thing up in the air if need be.
If you are reading this from America, and are sad that you can't actually attend the Euro Airdot Con, then did you know there might be a Cabin Pressure convention in the US?
