On my first day back at work after winter break, the streets looked like this:
On January 5th 2026 (and January 4th) there was a perfect storm of weather conditions where every single tree and shrub in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada looked like this (the street Christmas decorations hanging off the lightposts were also covered with this). You can't see it in the pictures, but the holes in the fence at the school I work at were completely filled in by a fine layer of the snowy ice too.

I'm gonna miss their pizza, it was good.

In sharp contrast to this a-hole, there's a restaurant in Olds run by a lovely Filipino couple: The Ramen Library. 20/10 recommend.

Airdrie Pride said it chose to host a walk of solidarity instead of a parade to pay homage to those who have fought for LGBT rights in the past and to acknowledge that there is still work to be done to attain meaningful equality.
Rhianne Fiolka, Airdrie Pride vice president, said that while progress has been made, there are still members of the LGBT community who face disproportionate discrimination.
"We really want to focus on the most vulnerable and at-risk people in our community and uphold them as a group," said Fiolka.
