In the firebending Masters episode right before the walk up the stairs and Aang says something like ‘we could turn around now we already learned more about fire than we hoped’. Aang doesn’t think the masters will judge him as worthy because he hasn’t forgiven himself for the genocide of his people and the dragons. He has forgiven everyone even the fire nation but struggled to forgive himself. “It is easy to do nothing but it is hard to forgive”
