since i'm going to finally be watching project hail mary (probably within the next few days? i hope? i think) i'm writing down my thoughts on what i think the movie is about just from what i've learned from seeing shit about it on my dash because i think my bestie will make fun of me if i tell them in person lol

grace (ryan gosling) is a middle school science teacher and he gets knocked out and kidnapped by a hot evil ginger lady and an fbi agent and then he's shot into space alone for some reason. the evil ginger lady just hates him or something, i actually don't know why she does this. his spaceship lands on an alien planet and for some reason he has amnesia #classic. and then he meets a big sentient rock, who introduces itself as rocky. grace is like 'hello, i'm grace' and they become friends because he's lonely in his giant empty spaceship and rocky doesn't know what a human is and considers grace like a strange pet. i have a feeling that there's probably like, 5 other sentient rock creatures also all named rocky, but i actually have no idea. the evil ginger lady sends video messages to grace and tells him that he can't come back to earth because it's gonna be destroyed by the sun and he's humanity's last hope. grace has absolutely no idea what she expects him to do about that, but at least he has a sentient rock for a friend now.

at some point grace does some math and figures out that the evil ginger lady tricked him all along and he's just stuck in space now because earth exploded years ago and he was in cryostasis for like, fifty years or something, and those messages she sent were all pre-recorded. so now he just chills in his spaceship reading books and telling his friend rocky about earth.
