Episode Six: Bradley Hanan Carter

"You'll be back in Whangarei in a year, tops." 

Bradley Hanan Carter first came to America well over a decade ago with his band Stereogram who had sign a deal with the big guns, Capitol Records. Their video was nominated for a grammy, they toured the world playing to many and lived the dreams of a young musicians. Since their natural conclusion around 2007, Bradley has gone on to follow other musical pathways and is now settled on his project Black English. As well as front the band he's stepped into the role of producing music, recently finishing his first record for another artist, Mynabirds.

Bradley has somewhat paved the way for many kiwi musicians who now live in Los Angeles setting up a network in the neighbourhood of Echo Park. He even let me stay on his couch a couple nights when I was a young and over-excited teenager on my first overseas adventure (thanks again). 

In this conversation we go over the music that has played a role in his life and look into the influences and experiences on which he derives for his own music.

Episode Five: Josh McKenzie

"You're off to where?! Well, good luck finding a Flat White."

Josh McKenzie put his stake firmly in the ground with his first performance in The Hopes & Dreams Of Gazza Snell winning an NZ Film Award for Outstanding Feature Film Debut. He's gone on to star in roles on TV shows Shortland Street, Go Girls, Power Rangers, Nothing Trivial and Films Tangiwai and most recently The Kick as your fave undie man, Dan Carter. Since moving back to L.A Josh has spent his time writing, crafting songs and created + starring in a webseries with fellow kiwi Harry Moore called Transplants. Make sure you check out an episode.

Episode Three: Dan & Dave Gibson

For episode three of A Kiwi Abroad we caught up with brothers Dave & Dan Gibson who are now residing in New York City and following their musical dreams in their family band 'Streets Of Laredo'. The brothers took out time of their North American tour to talk to Connor about their many years spent in NZ based bands and experiences over the years that have lead then to keep coming back to music. You'll know the brothers from their previous musical endeavors, Elemeno P & Kingston however the lads have done a fair few other things in their time which we explore in the conversation.
