I’m a sucker for fake dating and the premise for this one was great.

I was a bit uncomfortable with how the fake dating started, but Abby came clean very quickly and from there, I was all in.

I loved the single mum aspect and how important this was to the overall story. Kayla is the centre of Erica’s world and she’s such a good mum. She puts Kayla first in everything, often at the expense of her own happiness. She’s also the biggest barrier in Erica and Abby shifting from fake dating to real dating.

I really liked the resolution to this, too. Abby’s fears and concerns were valid, but I’m so glad she worked through them.

What let this down for me (and normally I wouldn’t comment on it, but this was specifically an advanced listener copy) was the narrator. I often found myself losing who was who or who was saying what because none of the characters had different voices outside of a slight lisp and whine for Kayla, the child. She was just very dull as a narrator, which is a shame as the book was otherwise good.
