want to squish his face so bad
Ive noticed that whenever Will speaks, it cuts to Mike, and if there's more people in the shot Mike is always in focus.
So I wonder if what's being said is relevant to Mike specifically, or if its just to show he's always looking at Will
Watching the latest 2 episodes of Hacks again. I love both of them for their clear moral messages. That of generation A.I. is bad for the environment and shouldn’t be used without full awareness and understanding of the risks and consequences. They didn’t ever say that it shouldn’t be used at all, but just that it should be very carefully considered how it’s used - especially in terms of content creation. They communicated that very well.
And for the S05E07 episode - honesty is always the best policy - and I mean that both in a in-show and out-show perspective because it was clear that it was both.
They were very honest in that episode about Deborah and Ava’s relationship and I value that greatly. I do think it’s hilariously accurate that the lesbian couple doesn’t believe them though and is still rooting for them despite what they were told. That’s a clear nod to the shippers and it was done very well. Sure there will be some that will be upset by it but then they’re likely never going to be satisfied what would be done unless it’s exactly what they ask for - which they have made clear is not going to happen. Not because they’re both the lead female characters and not because there’s a huge age gap between them. But because Deborah isn’t attracted to women and also Ava feels like it wouldn’t work out with them even if Deborah was. Again…. - just very honest.
It’s up to us how we react from there because they’ve made it very clear what their intention is with Avorah.
But this should be how it’s done every time instead of all the queerbaiting bullshit we usually have to endure when it’s a lead female character dynamic. Intention.
I said the same with Xena even if the circumstances are very different there. Intention is always what needs to be remembered regarding this. What does the show’s creators intend? Well, in this case, nothing romantic.
But they’ve explained why not and that’s perfectly fine.
And they’ve explained it IN THE SHOW ITSELF. 👍👌
I much prefer that than the constant ‘will they, won’t they’ shit if the truth is that they never will go for it but they just want to leave that homoerotic line hanging as much as possible to keep their shipper fans watching and anticipating something that they have no interest in ever providing. That’s exploitation and it’s not cool.
Hacks is the way this should be done every single time.
Open and clearly communicated intention. Well done! I hope other shows will take from this that being honest with us is the only way they will keep us. Not just with queer representation but all representation in general.
Because representation matters. It really fucking matters. They can’t play fast and loose with it just because it’s good promotion for generating a target audience engagement. And they can’t say that it’s censorship because it’s not. It’s just being a bigot.
I need to see more shows do it the way Hacks do it. It’s phenomenal writing across the board and I’m saying all this as someone who cannot watch any pure comedies because we are often made the butt of the joke instead of a part of why the joke is written and actually IS funny.
Yeah. That second episode was a masterclass on how to do it and Hacks in general is a training ground for how ALL comedy shows or sitcoms should do queer or any kind of representation at all. I am very very impressed.
