Early one February morning in 2002, Rick Fisher was driving down Route 23 toward Marietta, Pennsylvania, when he saw what he thought was a child standing in the middle of the road. He slowed, planning to help—until he got close enough to see this was no child, or at least not a human one. The figure was about five feet tall, stick thin, and covered in dark hair. Cryptid & Creature Drawtober Day 14—The Albatwitch

The Albatwitch is a creature which has been spotted since at least the early 1900s around Columbia, Pennsylvania. It’s said to be about four feet all, covered in hair, and be man or ape-like in appearance. Like a little mini Sasquatch! Supposedly the creature was nicknamed “apple-snitch” for its fierce love of apples—which it is often reported to steal from picnickers and sometimes even throw them at hikers if agitated—and the name eventually evolved into “Albatwitch.” This little guy has quite a fan base in Columbia, PA and now there’s even a festival held in his honor every year called Albatwitch Day.

Local legends in the area of Columbia, Pennsylvania speak of a creature called an “albatwitch.” The albatwitch is a small (about 4 feet tall), manlike creature, which supposedly lived in wooded areas.

The creatures are named for a habit, which they possess. Their bizarre common name is short for “apple-snitch”, as they are reputed to have a taste for apples. Legends speak of how the Albatwitches would often steal apples from picnickers, occasionally even throwing them at the startled people.
