it’s such a minor thing in the finale, but it’s devastating to hear vel and cassian talk about how other rebels claim to have been on aldhani.
andor, really is about quiet sacrifice. luthen and kleya’s achievements are swept under the rug by yavin—he dies to be forgotten, she becomes just another rebel (though i assume she becomes higher ranking later). nobody except kleya is left who knows lonni’s ultimate sacrifice. taramyn and gorn are forgotten after aldhani. nemik’s manifesto probably doesn’t have his name. nobody recognizes the sacrifice of kino—melshi and cassian are the last ones to remember him, and they die on scarif. the ghor are remembered but only as “the ghor”—meanwhile, the dhanis and the ferrixians are forgotten. wilson and bix are the last survivors of ferrix. cassian never gets recognition for saving mon. and cassian and vel are the last ones who were there at the first major rebel attack but they don’t even get recognition at all, with others lying about being there.
and cassian, jyn, chirrut, baze, bodi, melshi, and countless others die on scarif, only to be brushed over as a footnote by the opening crawl of a new hope.
their sacrifices weren’t in vain. without a single one of them the siege wouldn’t have been broken, as per the immortal words of karis nemik, but they weren’t the final thing to break the siege. and that’s just how things are. every single rebel who took the chance to leave yavin on rogue one is cassian andor—they have a story, a sacrifice, a reason for being where we are. but not even we can see their sacrifice.
andor is a story about quiet sacrifice. and it’s so perfect for it.
