Beastly by Alex Finn

Cheesy! 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

Reading this book reminded me of a younger cousin, Samara. She’s a decade younger than I am and is currently reading The Hunger Games Trilogy. Although I live some oceans away from her, I’m glad to learn how she is fond of reading stories especially on Wattpad (and started to write some of her own. Sweet!) I remember her asking her parents to buy “The School for Good and Evil” after seeing me read it and although she wasn’t ready yet to finish reading a whole novel (at that time), my heart has fluttered as she excitedly held it in her arms and started making her own mini library. She has actually memorized the opening verse of that novel that goes like, “Twin towers stand alike...” and believe me when I say that it whispered some kind of a magic spell to my ears! For the love of books! ♥️

As I was saying, I suddenly thought of her while reading Beastly because the novel is really easy to read and as I have said, it’s cheesy! Way too cheesy for me as a matter of fact. It is indeed some kind of a fairytale. I usually frown at romantic kind of stories (maybe that’s why Jude’s side of the story in “I’ll Give You the Sun” and a novel called “You Know Me Well” both did not appeal that much to me). I was actually afraid of reading YA love stories cause I know I wouldn’t be able to appreciate them that much. But I actually liked Beastly. 😁

There were awkward moments between me and the book (lol) but I ended up amused. I like the chatroom first of all. It took me a few seconds before realizing that Mr. Anderson was Hans Christian Andersen himself. 🤦🏽‍♀️😂 Witty! I like how Silent Mermaid got the ending she had in the story than in her famous Disney movie. I wasn’t familiar with Grizzlyguy’s story though.

As for the story itself, I can now better understand why the “Beast” loved his roses that much. I had that “Aaah...” moment. 😂

So let’s talk about the moral of the story. “Love is never ugly.” Looks do matter. That’s a fact. When I was younger, I don’t care about my appearance at all. I was like, “Why bother to beautify myself if it’s the inside that matters?” Plus I was fat, dark-skinned, and my hair is a huge frizzy curly mess. When girls my age complain about their weight, complexion, dry hair... I stop for a moment and think, “Wait... all of those describe me!” 😂 and I remember this college guy who told me that someone was looking for me but didn’t know how I looked like so he had described as... well, you could already tell. Lol. But now I think it was nice of him to tell me than laugh behind me. He wanted me to laugh with him. Yeah, I remember one classmate now who had cracked a joke about me being the darkest in class in a song (this was college times, people) and that time although they were nice to tell me about the joke, I was of course slightly offended. Jokes always hold a little truth in them. Not half truth all the time but a little. Lol.

At present though, I’m still the same. 🙆🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️😂 Still a big fat girl but I’m proud to say, happier. I have embraced myself, I feel good when I take care of my skin, and I just feel a little cuter than before. 😉 Hahaha. Maybe because I have friends who look past my imperfections and still call me beautiful. I have a family who well, they refuse to call me pretty but I know that their advice is for my own good. 😛 Yet, no matter how nice it is to be honest and share some helpful advice, be careful not to thread on the line. Remember to respect people even if you sometimes believe than you’re better than them. (Cause you are actually not. Nobody is. We are all equally beautiful. 🌻)

So if you’re looking for love, let’s just have it like this. Be yourself. 😁 Don’t worry about love. The true ones often come unexpectedly. It will be the kind that will accept you inside and out. I think when you’re happy - at home - with somebody, nothing else would matter. 🌹
