Ever Worry About the Plastic Waste From Your Glitter?
I’ve mentioned before how I’m kind of obsessed with the 10 Principles of Burning Man (read my post about that here), and one of them is “Leaving No Trace”, which had me thinking a lot this past festival season with the growing trend of glitter.
All of us who use glitter, know that it’s pretty much a part of your life, forever, once used. I just ran into someone this weekend and I was like ‘I love the glitter on your body’! And she said it was from 3 days ago and she still couldn’t get it all off.
So in my musings, I was like, how can you leave no trace behind with this glitter epidemic? And truthfully, it’s not like I’m ready to give up glitter any time soon, so that wasn’t a solution. I believe in alternatives, we can’t tell everyone to stop using glitter, but we can hopefully ask them to instead purchase biodegradable glitter.

So check it out, this brings me to Universal Soul. This is a brand that makes awesome cosmetic grade glitters in various styles and colors, all from biodegradable materials. Your conscious can rest as you get ready for your raves!
“Simply put, Universal Soul glitter is not harmful to the environment like traditional glitter, which is mostly made of plastic and glass that harms the body and the environment,”explained founder Raja to me via e-mail.
I love small brands and finding passionate people behind them. Having fun getting ready and expressing yourself through fashion is something I truly believe in, as does Raja.
“I created Universal Soul because I want to inspire people to connect with the expansive, creative part of the soul that helps achieve profound growth, while also looking fabulous and lifting up others at the same time. Glitter is one of the rare, uniquely self-expressive fashion accessories that has no creative boundary. If you can dream it, you can make it happen with glitter. And when I saw the opportunity to do all of this with an eco-friendly material, I knew it was special.”

The glitter is really cool too because it comes in various grain sizes, so you can layer up your looks in a million different ways. The pigment is super bright as well, and the mixed color batches are super cute. I also love that they come in little glass jars vs plastic!
Now what you’re all wondering, how much will it cost me to save the environment? Not that much! Each jar is $9.99. Which is directly competitive with other popular glitter brands right now (Lunautics is $9.95 and about $8).
I just got a few shades of my own, so I’ll be testing them soon on my Instagram and blog, but I just had to share with you how cool this brand is right away! We’re approaching the most sparkly season of them all: Winter & NYE! You can shop the glitters here for your next event.
