i was trying to explain transgenderism to my (slightly confused but generally supportive) grandmother and she said

"well the thing i don't get [deadname]. is the standard it sets. i mean, if i can call myself a man, even if i'm biologically female, does that mean i can call myself a martian too?"

and some would try and explain their way out of it and give a whole long explanation of gender vs other things and the exceptions and nuances and i just went

"yes nonna. yes you literally can."
