I’m Ali Winters, a USA TODAY Bestselling author, and I mostly write NA dark, gothic, epic romantasy, but I have written some YA books. I’m currently working on Wicked Prince of Frost, a standalone set in my NA gothic fantasy world. It’s a spin-off, but can be read alone as it’s set in a neighboring kingdom—One of many I hope to write.

Congrats on the book, now onto the questions:
(Laura)
What can your readers expect from your next book?
(Ali)
Adventure, romance, spice, curses, magic, and more lovable demons from the Shadow World universe.
(Laura)
How does your next book fit in with your series?
(Ali)
It’s set in the same Shadow World, but in a different kingdom. The main series in the world features vampires (some shifters, witches, and hints at other kingdoms and paranormal/fantasy races set in the world).
(Laura)
Was there any inspiration behind your story/series?
(Ali)
I’ve loved the Snow Queen story since I was little, and I really wanted to write a sort of gender swapped reimagining of it, and this happened to be the perfect opportunity!
(Laura)
How many books have you written?
(Ali)
I’ve written and published 19 books—not counting coloring books, omnibuses, anthologies, or other things.
(Laura)
Are there any more books in the series?
(Ali)
Wicked Prince of Frost is a standalone but is closely connected to my complete, five book series, The Vampire Debt. There is also a standalone novella spinoff, The Vampire Trap.
(Laura)
Will there be any more books in your series?
I have so much fun writing in this world, I hope to write several more series and standalones in the Shadow World.
(Laura)
Can you explain your book or series for the people who haven't read them yet?
(Ali)
The books and series in The Shadow World combine my love of gothic romance and fantasy with inspiration from classics such as Dracula, Pride and Prejudice, with the magic of fantasy in The Last Unicorn that captured my heart when I was little, my undying love of fairytales,
(Laura)
Do you snack while you write?
(Ali)
Sometimes I will. But mostly not. When I do, it ranges from peaches, grapes, oranges to goldfish and Smartfood spicy popcorn. (It has to be the spicy kind). Otherwise, if I’m in a groove and don’t want to break my focus, I’ll eat my meals while writing.
(Laura)
Name one character you liked writing for/about in your book?
(Ali)
Oh, this is hard. I love writing all my characters. But if I had to choose, I think for Wicked Prince of Frost, I have to go with Iseul. Her sunshine personality is just as bright as Violet’s, but also different in a way that is unique to her. I found myself smiling a lot when writing her parts.
(Laura)
Where do you write your books/stories?
(Ali)
Mostly in my home office. Though I have various apps on my phone that are tied to the ones on my laptop so I can easily switch or make notes when I’m out and about and inspiration hits.
(Laura)
Besides writing, what are your other hobbies/skills?
(Ali)
I am also a goldsmith. It was my first job out of high school, and when I moved back to my hometown, I started working there again. It’s a lot of fun. I also used to knit, which was fun, but it’s been a while since I’ve worked on any projects there.
Now, I spend most of my downtime working with my dog.
(Laura)
Do you have any pets? If so, what are their names?
(Ali)
I lost my heart dog about a year and a half ago and didn’t want another dog anytime soon. But two months later, I saw someone post about finding a young husky that had been abandoned, and I bawled my eyes out for her. About a week or two later, she ended up with me.
Her name is Mina, and she is absolutely hilarious. But she also has a personality that can seem difficult (beyond typical husky hijinks) that requires a lot of empathy. So I’m glad I was able to be the one to adopt her.
(Laura)
Current book you're reading?
(Ali)
It’s a reread, but The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea. It’s my favorite book (published in the last several years) and a total comfort read. I actually named my husky after the main character.
