Mercury Retrograde in Virgo | How Does It Affect Your Third House?

As the third house is ruled by mercury it is one of the most important houses to look at during mercury retrograde. As the house of communication, it can relate to technology, friendships and interpersonal communications, online discourse and debate, and anything where wires could potentially get crossed.

But learning and studying is also a form of communication and mercury retrograde can affect how we uptake information and what we do with it in the wider world. From harrassed study sessions to computer glitches when submitting things, this is how the planets in your third house may influence how you experience this mercury retrograde in virgo.

Planetary Friendships

This is a concept that I just recently learned about. I still want to do more research, but there is an idea in astrology(Vedic astrology seems to be where I find most of the information) that the planets can be friends, enemies, and even neutral(depending on which Planet is giving their opinion). Please note that Jupiter is not only the happy-go-lucky planet we sometimes paint it as. It is seen as first and foremost a planet concerned with its religion and ideals. Saturn is also combined in a way to encompass both Capricorn and Saturn so you can see where it repels anything that doesn’t stand the test of time-that includes authority.

| Sun | A friend to the Moon, Mars, and Jupiter, An enemy to Venus & Saturn, and Neutral towards Mercury. 

The Sun enjoys the Moon because they both deal with the authority over the major systems of a human(the ego and the emotions). The Sun enjoys Mars because of the passion that Mars brings. The Sun enjoys Jupiter’s jolly nature. The Sun is an enemy to Venus because the Sun does not enjoy the freedom that Venus tries to instill in all. The Sun is an authority figure above all. The Sun does not like Saturn because of the restrictions Saturn places on the soul. The Sun is neutral towards Mercury because authority does not enjoy those who use too much free speech. The Sun is tolerant of Mercury, but nothing more.

The Moon enjoys the Sun because they both deal with the authority over the major systems of a human(the ego and the emotions). The Moon enjoys Mercury because Mercury allows the Moon to talk about those feelings that brim up inside of her. The Moon is an enemy to no one because all she wants is to show her affection. She can’t do that if she makes enemies of others. The Moon is neutral to Mars because Mars has too much passion for her ever-changing emotions. The Moon is neutral towards Venus & Saturn because they dislike the Moon. The Moon is neutral towards Jupiter because emotions tend to tolerate religion.

Mercury is friendly towards the Sun & Venus because of the need for these two when it comes to expressing itself. Mercury does not like the Moon because of a myth in Vedic Astrology that Mercury is the illegitimate son the Moon and therefore does not want to delve into those deep emotions. Mercury is neutral towards Mars because Mercury understands you need discipline to keep things in order. Mercury is neutral towards Saturn because Saturn is too intense for light-hearted Mercury. Mercury is neutral towards Jupiter because religion can still be used as philosophy with the use of free thinking.

| Venus | A friend to Mercury & Saturn, An enemy to Sun & Moon, and Neutral towards Mars & Jupiter. 

Venus is a friend to Mercury due to Venus’ love for thinking that can challenge authority and foster beauty/art. Venus adores Saturn in Vedic Astrology. This is seen as a strong pairing that creates something worthwhile. This is the strongest pairing( tied with the Sun & Mars). Venus does not like the Sun & Moon because it does not enjoy authority. Venus is neutral to Mars because it is the male-female dynamic in action. You can’t live with them or without them. The article brought up an interesting point about Venus & Jupiter. Sensuality and Beauty see the art in religion so Venus can tolerate all that Jupiter encompasses. Even when censored Venus created beautiful works(sometimes even better than if Venus wasn’t censored).

Mars enjoys the Sun because of the confidence that the Sun can bring. Mars also enjoys the Moon because passion enjoys the desires of the mind. Mars loves Jupiter because religion employs the use of discipline and action in order to ensure its success which Mars has no problem with. Mars hates Mercury because Mars hates free thinkers. Mars is neutral to Venus because it is the male-female dynamic in action. You can’t live with them or without them. Mars is neutral towards Saturn because it appreciates the practicality that Saturn can bring.

| Jupiter | A friend to Sun, Moon, and Mars, An enemy to Mercury & Venus, and Neutral towards Saturn. 

Jupiter enjoys the Sun due to the authority figure status it has as well as the confidence it brings. Religion understands the importance of the ego(or taming it at least). Jupiter loves the Moon because Jupiter realizes that emotion is important to improve religion, morals, and philosophy.  Jupiter dislikes Mercury because it is embarrassed by free thinkers. Jupiter dislikes Venus because religion dislikes artists. Jupiter is neutral towards Saturn because Saturn represents long lasting time, but hates anything to do with authority. The two benefit each other therefore they are neutral.

Jupiter is not disliked by anyone which is a testament to it’s good nature and delicate approach are acknowledged by all-even Mercury & Venus who he does not treat nicely.

Saturn is a friend to Mercury & Venus because thoughts and art can last forever if given the chance. Saturn does not like the Sun & Moon because it does not enjoy authority. Saturn does not like Mars because Saturn hates authority and hates that Mars will uphold authority. Saturn is neutral towards Jupiter because Saturn represents long lasting time, but hates anything to do with authority. The two benefit each other therefore they are neutral.

the earth

the earth is never really mentioned in astrology because we're standing on her & therefore she cannot be in our charts. but i dont think there's enough appreciation for her. without her, we'd have no charts to analyse. we'd have no air to breathe or water to drink. we'd have no sleepless nights counting stars or talking to the moon. we'd have no love, pain, happiness or anger. the other planets would have no effect anymore. the sun wouldnt bring us out of our shells. the moon wouldn't keep us in touch with ourselves. mercury wouldn't show us how to communicate with nature, animals, clouds, the rain or each other. venus wouldn't be there to help us see the best in others and bring out the best in us. mars wouldn't let us stick up for ourselves and care about each other. without jupiter, there'd be insecurity & without saturn, there'd be narcissism. uranus wouldn't help us see the bigger picture & have original ideas. neptune would free us from its fantasy world. pluto would be lost in the abyss. the earth is pretty fucking important so lets take care of her.

(Astrology Arena) The Activities and Events of the 12 Houses

All twelve houses in astrology are represented by certain activities and occurrences. When transiting planets enter these houses, especially when they are on the exact degree of the cusp of the house, they can be experienced as significant events occurring. If it’s transiting Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, or the North Node on that house’s cusp, the event(s) can be quite major and life-changing in terms of one’s path in life. In any case, if a transiting or a natal placement is in a house, it can be expressed through many different happenings and outlets.
