CORY:
Cory stood in the mirror as he buttoned his shirt. There was a part of him that felt guilty for putting off their bar night for as long as he had, the fact that they were finally going through with it though was a relief. He was actually looking forward to going out and potentially getting on a mechanical bull. After he gave himself another once over her grabbed his phone from the bed and kissed Sebastian on the head. The journey to Sam’s penthouse didn’t take nearly as long as he’d budgeted for, ordering the uber as he walked. “Hey, Sam, it’s me,” Cory called as he knocked on the door, leaning against the frame as he waited for the blond to answer.
Kitty: If you're going to let your publicist play wanna be millionaire matchmaker you should at least tell her to aim higher than bottom of the barrel models or singers who rely too heavily on autotune.
Kitty: and yes, I do know it's your publicist because there's no reason why you should be all over tmz unless it is deciding to lessen it's standards to that of gossip girl and blast about you every time you're "spotted" somewhere.
Kitty: Just saying, as your friend, you can do better.
TAGGING → Sebastian Smythe and Sam Evans. @greaserevans
TIME FRAME → New Year’s Eve; December 31st, 2016 into 2017.
LOCATION → Outside of the Irvine Concer Hall.
GENERAL NOTES → Sebastian needs an alibi for his midnight whereabouts and who better than the blackmailed Sam Evans?
Sam had yet to work out why he'd decided to come to this stupid party. He was trying to kid himself into thinking that it was just to keep an eye on Stevie and Stacey, but he knew deep down that it wasn't. Not even close. Sure, there was some truth to it but as his eyes traveled around the room searching out one particular guest, he had to admit to himself that it wasn't the whole story. He'd spent most of the party milling about, drinking more than necessary but not enough to get stupidly drunk and the hours ticked by towards midnight. He'd seen Sebastian around, catching his eye over a glass, through the crowds, across the refreshments table. Sam was wearing the jacket, of course he was. It was a good jacket and he knew where it had come from... and maybe it was a stupid emotional thing. And then he'd seen the bracelet on Sebastian's wrist, and how the hell could he stop staring after that? But as midnight creept closer, Sam crept closer to the edge of the party, the crowds getting suffocating.
Sebastian had spent the duration of his evening thus far mingling with guests, Socials and Greasers alike, to keep up appearances. To the public, Sebastian had made it appear as if he had thrown the mixer with the intention to bridge the divide, to start the new year on the right foot. However, those who knew the Mayor's son and his diabolical ways knew to be weary and prepared for whatever lie ahead. That didn't keep Smythe from lulling those who were skeptical into a false sense of security for as long as he possibly could beforehand. As midnight approached, Sebastian found himself not only excited, but relieved. Not only would his ulterior motive be revealed, he would not be at fault for it, and as soon as it was said and done, he no longer had to pretend that he had developed a tolerance for the other side. Smythe could tell they were nearing midnight when he excused himself from a conversation with another Social to assess his surroundings, the main room of the Concert Hall on its way to reaching capacity as everybody came together to count down to the New Year. It's time he told himself as he pulled the cuff of his suit jacket up just enough to reveal the time on his watch, as well as the bracelet next to it that he was certain he received from Sam Evans for Christmas. Sam Evans: his unsuspecting alibi. Carefully maneuvering his way through the crowd, the Social's eyes searched for the Greaser, and it wasn't long before he placed him in an area closest to the doors, causing the Social to grin. The Greaser was setting himself up just right and the hilarity came from the fact that he had absolutely no idea of what was to come. Making his way toward Sam, Sebastian reminded himself their interaction would need to look as suspicious as possible, mixer or not, The King of the Socials leaving with a Greaser would look far too strange and become means for gossip. As soon as they were in a close proximity, Sebastian brushed past Sam with the quiet order, "Meet me outside," before he began his venture to the outside where they were likely to have the necessary privacy that was required for his plan.
Sam was more than prepared to just sit this out, see in the new year by swallowing down the rest of his drink and making sure Stacey wasn't in any trouble. His eyes had been switching between his siblings and Sebastian all night, but at that moment he was mostly focused on Stacey. Stevie could look after himself, Sam knew that, and though he knew Stacey could too, it was still his duty... And then he had words in his ear and a body brushing his own and he was all of a sudden torn. He supposed they needed to talk... and Sebastian probably wouldn't miss the opportunity to get back in and take his pick of the litter to kiss so he'd be here in time... right? He gave it a few seconds, twenty to be exact, before he followed out, pretending to be looking at his bottle as though he needed a fresh drink, but he left it on the side as he slipped outside and into the cool night air. It was cold, but not so cold that his jacket wasn't enough to keep him warm. He wasn't shivering, though a small tremble did run down his spine when he spotted Sebastian. He didn't want to do this... He didn't want to face whatever soul-destroying comment he was about to get shoved at him. What threat he'd be given this time. "You summoned me?" Sam murmured as he came up to Sebastian, hands tucked firmly in his pockets.
On his way out of the concert hall, Sebastian nodded to the security detail that eyed him as he passed by, a gesture to let them know that he was safe, and that they had no reason to follow him. Once he felt that he and Sam would be out of eye view from not only the security but the party-goers inside, he stopped, only to reach into his pocket to retrieve his phone. Sebastian knew that Sam would be unable to resist the urge to follow him outside, even it was only curiosity and nothing else that drove him to do so. He figured he did not have long before the Greaser located him, taking the opportunity to text Jake the word 'midnight,' a subtle reminder that the New Year was approaching, and that he had a job to do at the stroke of midnight or face his wrath. When Smythe could hear Evans' footsteps approaching, he slipped his phone back into his pocket before turning on the heel of his shoe to face the younger male, a smile pulling at the corner of his lips. He hadn't had the opportunity to truly inspect Sam's apperance aside from the quick glances he had gotten of the other male across the room while he was mingling. Now that he could, he eyed him up and down, licking his lips in approval, "Samuel," Sebastian greeted, "You look..." He hesitated briefly while trying to find the appropriate word, "Handsome." Though part of Sebastian knew that it would take flattery to keep Sam's attention, the other knew what he said to be true. The Greaser was doting a new haircut, one that made him appear much more mature, along with a well constructed outfit, including the leather jacket Sebastian had anonymously left for him at Christmas, "It looks good on you," Sebastian said, giving away the fact it was indeed him who had left Sam the expensive gift, "Just like I thought it would when I saw it. Do you like it?"
Handsome. It was such a simple word but on Sebastian's lips it held so many meanings for Sam. It held the knowledge that it was probably just a rouse to get him to stay, it held that typical Smythe tone that he wasn't sure Sebastian could switch off even if he tried. But most of all, it was three words all in Sebastian's voice that Sam would lock away and replay to himself later as a reminder that the other could be nice if he really tried. He glanced down at his outfit, chewing on his lip slightly as he did so. The jacket felt heavy on his shoulders as it was mentioned despite it actually being pretty comfortable. But the weight of knowing who it was from... And therefore how much it must've cost... "Yeah, it's... nice." He answered, finally glancing back up at Sebastian. He struggled to meet the other's eye, almost as though protecting himself from whatever might happen. "Should I expect a list of demands in return for it? You know, just so I can prepare and all that."
"Nice?" Sebastian asked, voice softening, seemingly disappointed that 'nice' was all that Sam thought of the jacket, and feeling as though it was safe to include that the gesture was only 'nice' as well. The Social wasn't sure why this conflicted him as much as it did. Perhaps he expected the Greaser to be filled with joy; gratitude even, that the Social had gone out of his way for him, but clearly, that was not how the other male felt. Exhaling a sigh, Sebastian quickly recovered by smiling soon thereafter, reminding himself that he was on a mission, and that he had no choice but to succeed. If he didn't, he would be held responsible for the impending chaos that would be occurring inside any minute now and that could not happen. Taking a step forward, Sebastian closed the distance between their bodies, his hands moving up to readjust Sam's leather collar, hands expert, and gentle, "It was a Christmas gift from me to you, therefore it is free," Smythe assured Evans before releasing the Greaser's newly adjust collar, one hand resting on each of his leather clad arms, "Do I owe you for the beautiful bracelet you left me?" The Social asked, keeping his eye on the Greaser and hoping it would lead to eye contact.
Sam did feel a little guilty. Just a little. Because it was more than nice. Heck, it was unbelievable that Sebastian had bought him anything, let alone an actual leather jacket. It felt like some weird kind of acceptance for Sam's position in society, but it also had Sam questioning why. Not necessarily why he was accepting said position, but why he felt it necessary to buy him anything in the first place. Sam hadn't done anything to deserve this... "Yeah, nice... The Jacket. It was sweet." He answered, his eyes finally flicking up to the other's features as he found himself suddenly very close. It was like a drug, as much as Sam hated to admit it. Just being this close to Sebastian gave him such a rush, such a high, and it was one he couldn't recreate with any amount of alcohol or pot. No amount of heroin, or cocaine would help, either. Sam's drug of choice was a man he couldn't have who was currently fixing his collar and it was like taking a hit he'd needed all week. His breath even caught in his throat slightly, stuttering out past his lips as his eyes actually sought out Sebastian's this time. "No..." He answered once he was sure his voice would work. "It was a... a present. A.. I mean, it cost way less, but..."
When Sebastian listened to Sam correct himself, his voice gentle, and shaky as it came, he knew that he had the younger male right where he wanted him, unraveling. The combination of his touch and his words was proving to be the ideal Kryptonite and soon, Evans would be completely exposed, vulnerable, and willing to let Smythe do whatever it was that he pleased, that was certain. Though he could hear the excitement from within the building, party-goers rowdy and excited to count down the New Year, he knew it wasn't time yet. Which meant he could thoroughly enjoy himself in the meantime, even if it wouldn't be much longer, "I love it," Sebastian answered as his eyes made contact with Sam's, smile pulling at the corner of his lips, "No matter how much it cost." The more that the Social's eyes searched the Greaser's, he found himself growing anxious, though he tried not to show it. The look in Sam's eyes was a look that Sebastian had never seen before; not for him, at least. It was the look of a lovesick puppy who had been kicked and Sebastian did not know how to feel; what to say that he had been rendered speechless. It was the sound of the excited hollering from within the Concert Hall getting louder that had Smythe broken his trance and exhaling, having not realized that he had forgotten to breathe. It was almost time but Sebastian found himself wanting to call the whole thing off and retreat inside. But he couldn't, "You do know what I want, though?" He asked, his eyes darting to the building briefly before they returned to Sam.
While Sam didn't want to believe that Sebastian was being sincere in saying that he liked the bracelet to save him getting his hopes up again, he couldn't find anything in the other's tone or expression that said it was a lie. "I mean, it... I made it. Which is why it's so shit, I just, I um..." He swallowed, words dying in his throat as he realised that Sebastian really was staring at him. For a moment, just a moment, Sam wondered if maybe this wasn't all as one sided as he was starting to make himself believe. But then that trance was breaking and Sam was once again left unsure. It was a horrible feeling, really. Sam was constantly someone who was so sure of himself, of what he needed to do and needed to be to get his family away from the poverty line as much as possible. He had confidence 80% of the time, but right now, that confidence faltered, leaving him confused and vulnerable to whatever it was Sebastian wanted. Because he wasn't sure he could fight it, even if he wanted to. "N-No?"
Sam who Sebastian had bickered with nonstop, Sam who he constantly demeaned, Sam who he had threatened, blackmailed into sleeping with him, and forced his secrecy had sat down and taken his time to make him a bracelet for Christmas when he could have put his time and effort into somebody, anybody, that was more deserving, "It's not," Sebastian muttered unintentionally when Sam insulted his work, looking at the wrist that held a bracelet that actually meant something. Something made out of...love? Sebastian felt uneasy again, inhaling a deep breath. He needed to focus on the task at hand. 'This is business, not pleasure. This is business, not pleasure' found himself repeating over and over again in his head until he felt his feet were firmly on the ground with no means of taking off until he did what he had to do; what he had come to, and allowed himself to stupidly become distracted from. He breathed in and out, mentally counting along with the party go-ers within as midnight approached. 10, 9, 8, he kept his eyes fixated on Sam's face, his hands moving upward to place his hands softly upon either side of his neck, 7, 6, 5, "I want," he paused, unsure if it was intentional, 4, 3, 2, "This," he concluded simple, 1, 0. Leaning in, Sebastian captured Sam's lips in a kiss as the shouts of Happy New Year were heard, though for the Social, the contact had easily drowned them out. Samuel Evans had become Sebastian Smythe's midnight kiss on New Years. But not before he became his alibi.
: Sam wasn't even sure what he was feeling anymore. Something about this felt wrong but it was easy enough to kid himself into believing that this was completely normal. That Sebastian had a reason for bringing Sam out here beyond telling him his jacket looked nice. Because Sebastian wouldn't do that. As painful as it was to admit, Sebastian Smythe, head of the Soc's, Manipulator extraordinaire, would never pull Sam aside just to compliment him without an ulterior motive. But it was all put to the back of his mind when all the dreams he'd scratched out from his mind started to come true. As he heard the countdown, the numbers both too fast but too slow, his heart started to race in his chest. His cheeks warmed as Sebastian's hands were at his neck, Sam's mind starting to race as fast as his heart to search for a possible outcome of this - a broken neck? A surprise slushie? Was Hunter waiting not far off with eggs to throw or something? - but then their lips were together and there came that blissful emptiness again. That calm, that tranquillity, only this time it was Sebastian's causing. Sebastian had actually kissed him... He'd made the first move. And as hesitant fingers found their way around Sebastian's middle to his back, he found himself pulling away from the kiss, his eyes searching for answers to questions he couldn't form. The confusion was clear on his expression, but it was laced with something else. It was laced with a love and adoration that Sam had never felt for anyone before.
Sebastian felt a weight lift of his chest when he felt the pressure of Sam's lips, returning the kiss, giving him solid confirmation that he had, indeed, been successful in creating the perfect alibi for his whereabouts at midnight. Though he would never allow Sam to tell anybody it was a kiss that had occurred between them outside, the blackmail he had over the Greaser guaranteed him that he could create any story he deemed suitable, and Sam would vouch. Sam, the one person who had seen his darkness for all that it was, and loved him for it regardless was now nothing more than his alibi. And that was all he would, could ever be. They lived in two different worlds and nothing, not even a change of Mayor, would, could ever change that. When Sam broke the kiss, Sebastian maintained his facade with a whisper and a smile, "Happy New Year, Samuel." Gazing away from the Greaser and toward the building, The Social knew he needed to get back inside to put on the act he had planned, "I should get back inside," he said before looking back at the other male, "I've been a terrible host, ignoring my guests," he continued, "I'll see you inside, right?" He asked, though it was more of a statement. Sebastian had a feeling that Sam wouldn't be leaving anytime soon for more than one reason. Dropping his hands from their place on Sam, Sebastian gave him a smile before he turned and began his journey back into the building. It would be short-lived, but it would be enough for him to compose himself and be exactly who he needed to be when faced the impending chaos.
Sam was blissfully oblivious to how used he really was in that moment. He'd somehow managed to forget everything he knew about Sebastian and his manipulative ways. In that moment, Sebastian was just the guy Sam was falling for and they'd just had a perfectly normal New years kiss. There was no Soc vs Greaser, there was no divide that would mean he'd be lynched if anyone ever found out... It was just pure bliss and it showed through the smile resting on his lips, even as Sebastian pulled away and the contact was lost completely. "Happy new year..." He responded softly, his eyes still on the other, but it was clear he wanted to go long before he spoke. But Sam just pulled on his smile, and nodded. Sebastian had his reasons, Sam wasn't going to push or pry. "Yeah, of course... See you inside..." He called after him, watching him go and leaving the Greaser alone in the cold night air. Fireworks could be heard faintly in the distance, stars could be seen in the sky... and Sam Evans had a smile on his face to outshine them all.
