crocodile mask- final day
yes, yes, I finally finished it…it’s actually been done for like 2 weeks and I’m just now writing about it
Painting! I started by coating the mask in a black base coat, every nook and cranny EXCEPT the original cat mask nose underneath the crocodile snout, which I didn’t cut out of the base due to nose support. After that, I dry brushed a layer of brown, and a layer of green over that’s what’s dry brushing, you may ask? Dry brushing is actually a technique used for making minis for ttrpgs and other tabletop games, but is a technique where you brush most of the paint off a stiff brush and gently glide the rest of the paint on the item- the black base creates natural shadows, and in this case the underlayer of brown also gives us more color variation, like a real crocodile!
Now, after this, I stopped using any sort of reference, and went off with my own stylistic choices, if you’re looking for a realistic color option, I’d make tweaks to this and stop reading here- or do, hehe! (Also. After I painted I added a cardboard support to cover up the cat base’s nose and the cavity of the crocodile snout, didn’t get a picture though- it’s just glued cardboard lol)
At first I had no stylistic plan for this mask color wise, which is part of why this took me so long to finish. I ended up using the 3D parts I’d sculpted on and painting them vibrant colors, with New Orleans inspiration kinda? After that I put my own painting signature on it, that being small black or white notches to give it a more cartoony effect, which I may write on in the future.
Not my most seamless work, but really fun for an exercise! I don’t have enough foam clay to sculpt the teeth, but if you’d like a tutorial on that, just lmk! I’ll pick some up and be done in no time :) thanks for reading!
Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
can’t sleep cus tail bone pain…
My body is just constantly reminding me of what we lost…
I miss my tail…
My two moods right now
Angy giant hissing lizard ready to snap and pounce
And defenseless bear cub calling for its guardian
The duality is palpable
Snapping my jaws at bigots
if you get booped by me just know these are what’s booping you
So I have this oc who is probably alienkin and alligator hearted the way I wrote them. So like I am not either of those things but every time I see something related to them I still feel this connection through my oc I guess.
I just remembered I have a second oc who is also alligatorkin, seamonsterkin, mermaidkin, shapeshifterkin, and snake hearted so similar with them too.
(Third oc is just a winged human and so am I 🪽)
How do all my ocs end up accidentally being therians/otherkin??
Hi. Could you make an American alligator moodboard with a book and games theme?
