Something Y/n hated about being Dauntless was having to deal with unruly factionless. A group of Dauntless including Eric, Four and Y/n had been sent out to deal with a group of factionless that had killed multiple people.
It didn’t take long before they had gotten the situation under control. Y/n was walking around checking to make sure they could leave soon. When all of sudden she felt something run into her.
“Ooph.” Y/n looked down and saw a boy hugging her. “Hello there.”
“Where’s your parent’s?” Y/n asked after the boy didn’t say anything.
“Don’t have any.” he shook his head as he answered.
Y/n raised a brow. “What do you mean?”
“They were killed.” The boy mumbled looking at his shoes. Y/n noticed he had some dirt on him and a little blood but he didn’t look hurt.
“By them?” Y/n pointed to the group of factionless behind her. The group who had been responsible for killing a few people. The boy nodded ‘yes’, confirming her perceived thoughts.
“Stay next to me okay?” Y/n told him, holding him to her wanting to comfort the poor child who saw his parents murdered only hours ago. “Eric!”
Eric walked over with a confused expression. “What? Who’s this?”
“I’m Emmett.”The boy spoke up softly.
“That's a great name.” Y/n smiled down at him. Trying to show the child a friendly face after what he had no doubt seen.
“My mommy named me.” Emmett smiled up at her.
“Where is she Emmett?” Eric questioned the boy, he was wondering why his girl was with this boy in the first place.
“Gone.” the boy looked down at the ground sadly with watery eyes.
“Can you stay with my friend Four for a second?” Y/n knelt down hoping the boy would trust her.
“O-okay.” Emmett stuttered anxiously, not liking the idea of being away from her.
“You see that guy right there? That's my friend Four.” Y/n turned them to face where Four was and pointed him out.
“Like the number?” He asked with a smile.
Y/n nodded with a smile. “Just like the number.”
“Four!” Y/n yelled out causing Four to turn around and look at her. He sees the boy and nodd’s to Y/n in understanding. Emmett walked over to Four. Once he was out of ear chot Y/n and Eric turned to each other as Y/n stood back to full height.
“Where are his parents?” Eric asks with crossed arms.
“Gone. Dead. He said they were killed and pointed to the factionless over there.” Y/n explained to him what Emmett had told her.
“His parents were killed in the attack.” Eric sighed, getting even more angry that this happened at all.
“I think so. He’s not dirty, besides from hiding and there is some fresh blood on his clothes. But its not his, I checked.” She told him further.
“God dammit.” he huffed, pinching the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes.
“Eric, I don’t want to leave him alone.” Y/n spoke with a shaky voice worried to the boy who was no more than 6, having already grown attached to the kid.
“Be with him, We’ll deal with this.” Eric nodded understanding where she was coming from.
“Eric.” Y/n called his name as they walked away from each other. Effectively stopping him. “Make it hurt.”
Y/n referred to what they were gonna do to the murders in the factionless group. She hated that they made this poor boy an orphan.
Y/n walked over to Four and Emmett immediately latched onto her legs.
While Four walked over to Eric and the two watched Y/n and the little boy walked away.
“She’s already fallen in love with that boy. You know that right?” Four spoke up to Eric smiling at Y/n’s behavior.
“Yeah. I can tell. . . His parents were killed in the attack.” Eric agree’s before telling Four what had just happened to the said boy.
“Poor kid.” Four sighed feeling for the boy.
Once Four and Eric talked about what to do about the factionless situation Eric headed over to where Y/n and Emmett were playing tic tac to in the dirt.
“Ready to go?” Eric says as he approached Y/n.
“Yeah.” She nodded.
“Come one kid. You to.” Eric gestured with his hands for the boy to get up to go with them.
“What?” Emmett was confused.
“Your coming home with us.” Eric states, completely shocking the boy.
“Not that I’m not happy but why?” Y/n whispered to Eric so Emmett wouldn’t overhear her.
Eric looked her in the eyes. “He needs a family.”
It was more than that but they could talk about that later. Alone without listening ears.
“Are you serious?” Y/n was shocked but happy and also confused Eric doesn’t like kids as far as Y/n knew.
“He’s grown on me okay.” Eric answered with a shrug of his shoulder. Really what had grown on him was watching Y/n with the boy. How she was acting all motherly towards the boy. It did something to Eric watching that.
“Thank you.” Y/n smiled gratefully up at her man before kissing him on the cheek. Their little family.
One day you wake up from a coma not knowing where you are or how much time has passed. As your eyes slowly open you notice you are in a hospital. On the other side of the room there’s a kid with a broken arm. You can’t see clear yet, everything is blurry. Your head hurts and you lay back down. You start to wonder how did I get here. But just can’t seem to remember. You turn your head to look at the clock. Time is slowly passing by. You close your eyes. “Just a few more seconds.” you think yo yourself. Just a few moments after that you hear loud noise. The doors are opening. You hear footsteps rushing towards you.
You open your eyes just a little bit to see who it is. And then you see them. All of them. Characters from your favourite books. They are crying from happiness. Everybody is hugging you, asking you “How did this happen?” “Are you okay?” “We were worried sick about you!” “Thank god/s you are okay!”
And you are just laying there, in shock. “THEY ARE ALIVE!!!!” you think to yourself “How can this be possible?”
And then you it hits you. All those dreams you had, all those books you read, all those daydreams you thought up in your head. THEY ARE REAL! All those countless nights you spent creating different scenarios in your head, you were just remembering all the details from you real life. Your life with them.
It’s nothing unknown that Eric is headstrong and serious. Very serious. You are the only one that ever gets to see him let his guard down even a little. It’s a slow process. You try your hardest to get him to lighten up a bit, and occasionally, it actually works. He’s not as terrible during training, not bullying the transfers as much, and giving them just a little slack. Behind closed doors he can mess around with you a little, sometimes teasing you or joking around, but overall he’s still a very serious man. But you love him despite his faults. One of his big ones... Possessiveness. What’s his is his. End of discussion, no questions asked. A lot of the initiates that fear Eric avert their eyes from you when he’s around, it’s that bad. He isn’t around all the time when you are training, but when he is, he tends to stand in the back and watch intently. Most of the boys catch on, being careful around you. Some make the mistake of whispering to each other asking about Eric, which causes them to have to run til they drop just for talking instead of paying attention.. Much less if Eric actually heard what they said. On occasion, there was the new transfer that thinks he’s hot shit, and will do one of two things: flirt, or have an attitude. Eric shuts that down immediately, making them train until they can’t anymore. You feel bad, it’s excessive, but they do need to learn discipline to be in Dauntless.
Eric does not like anyone touching you, looking at you, or barely speaking to you. You often times get into fights because he gets so worked up over silly things, but you try to have patience.
Today, however, he was in a mood. Not angry particularly, which was more common. Today.. He was insecure. Of course, nobody knew this, he just seemed pissy to anyone else. You could tell that something was wrong, though. He was staying off to the side, watching you work with the initiates and Four. You glance back at him, wondering why he is acting weird. The day goes slowly and he doesn’t interact much at all. Little did you know he was feeling insecure about you. He thought that he didn’t deserve you and you would be happier with someone like Four, making him hate Four all the more. You come over while the initiates are running an stand beside him, not too close, knowing how he feels about his image. “What’s up with you today?” You ask. He continues looking ahead, his eyes falling slightly. If you weren’t mistaken, he looks sad. “Nothing.” He replies shortly. Your shoulders droop and you wonder the right way to approach the obvious tension. “You seem off... Is there anything I can do?” You ask, trying not to push your luck. He sighs a little and turns to look at you. His expression is softer than usual. “Why don’t you see if Four needs you.” He mumbles, masking his insecurity with anger. You realize a little what this is about and look around to see who’s watching. “Eric, I don’t care about Four. You’re the only person I care about.” You assure him, touching his arm softly. He looks at you, a sad look in his eyes, and does the unexpected. He pulls you against his own body, wrapping his arms over your shoulders, hugging you from behind. He never does this in public, you are shocked. He kisses the top of your head and you snuggle against his hard frame. “You’re mine, right?” He mumbles into your ear. You look up at him and smile. “Always.” He smiles just a little, kissing you quickly. His lips on your’s makes your heart flutter, even after so much time together. You smile lightly and go to pull away, not pushing it, but he keeps you close. “You know there’s people around, right?” You ask, shocked at his affection. He shrugs, dropping his hands to rest around your stomach. “I don’t care, they know you’re mine.” He responds, a slight smirk forming on his lips. You can’t help but smile a little more, happy at his affectionate behavior. He kisses your neck a little and you groan at his touch. You feel his smirk grow against your skin. You see the initiates returning from the run, with Four, and his grip on you tightens. You run your fingers over his arm, trying to reassure him. “Y/N, Eric.” Four greets cordially. Eric glares, you smile politely. Eric lets go of you, standing up straight behind you, territorial. “They done for the night?” You ask him, referring to the initiates. Four nods. “They need a lot of work.” He says, glancing at the exhausted group. “C’mon Y/N, you’ve got a long night ahead of you.” Eric grumbles, placing a hand protectively on your hip and escorting you out of the room, glaring back at Four.
