I have come to find i am MORE active in fandoms that have less people or less media in them.
I love undertale, i play minecraft often, ive played and loved tf2 for years, i'm quickly getting into touhou and have been watching breaking bad, etc. Well known series with large, established fanbases.
I dont feel NEARLY as driven to contribute to those communities as I do with lesser loved media, like Spore, Portal 1, Fate (wildtangent), Yume Nikki, Zombieland Saga, House (barkbark), etc...
I think 2 of the few exceptions to this, for me, are Portal 2 and Vocaloid, both of which have very large communities. But in those, I have little interest in making the "typical" type of content, and opt more towards Horror in portal 2 (or weird map experiments) and Shiteyanyo or Horror in vocaloid.
even Life is Strange, which i used to create for a lot, gained a much bigger media presence and therefore more people who just want to make art of the characters kissing and being happy or angsty, rather than the cracked out shit that I used to make.
its just interesting to me where i focus my efforts based on how established the community is. my musings!
