She is so gullible that she is just doing exactly what her sick grandfather wants. It wouldn't surprise me if Kate had had permission/encouragement from her father for killing the Hales.
The only person I even remotely like is her dad, Chris. He still has a code and although he is heartbroken over losing his wife, he is not going bat shit crazy either.
Did anyone explain to Allison that her mother was trying to slowing poison Scott with monkshood? No. I doubt that. That Derek was just protecting the man she's in love then she just goes all darkside and tries to be badass because she thinks she knows everything.
