(This is an alternate universe where Laura and Lydia met and fell in love in New York before the series started. Also a lot of my time travel stories tend to get a little Supernatural-y. It’s a sickness.)
The girl in the sunglasses had been staring at Laura for what had probably been three hours. Literally three hours. Her mother always said she had a tendency to over-exaggerate, but when she had noticed the brunette it had been at the beginning of her shift, which was now almost half over. Laura wasn’t exactly complaining, though. The girl was a babe, but she knew for sure that she had a tendency to attract weirdos, and probable lack of supernatural powers or not, the shorty looked like she could definitely take down someone half her size.
After finally deciding it would be worth getting stuffed in a trunk if it meant possibly getting a phone number, Laura walked over to her table with a pot of coffee.
"You looked like you were eyeing for a refill," she chuckled as she filled the mug up.
The girl looked taken aback, but smiled after a moment. Now that she was closer, Laura noticed a few stray red curls peeking out from underneath the brown, which she realized was probably a wig. Not that she could judge anyone for not being happy with their natural hair. She dyed hers once every month.
"Yeah, sorry, I probably looked like some kind of creep."
Laura laughed again. The stranger’s smile widened and she raised the mug to her lips, revealing the shiny gold wedding ring on her left hand.
She turned around and started to walk back over to the counter when she felt a hand on hers. The girl had leaned forward and was looking at her seriously (or as seriously as a person can while wearing sunglasses). She was no longer smiling, but biting her lip, as if attempting to keep herself from crying.
It took her a few moments, but finally she spoke again.
"You’re going to want to go back home in January 2011. Please, please don’t do it.”
Okay. This girl was definitely crazy. But before Laura could ask her if there was someone she could call to come pick her up, she gave her hand one last squeeze and headed to the door.
Derek was never going to believe this story when she told him later.
