ALONE NIGHT

A room sunk in darkness:

a heavenly soft bed where to rest

not a single noise can be heard

except for my calm heartbeat

I love walking alone at night

These past few nights, I started taking the cheaper may-mga-kasabay tricycle trips instead of my usual special take-me-home trip again and walk the rest of my way home. It is quite nerve-wracking when someone I know sees me walking. Most of them feel bad, thinking my parents were not giving me enough allowance or that I was saving too much. Though I am indeed trying to save money, it wasn't the only reason I was walking. More than trying to have it as an exercise, which is the thing that I haven't done for months now, walking alone at night makes me feel calm.

Walking alone in the dark night especially if you're a girl, though bizarre as most people think, is one of the things I look forward at the end of the day though it won't really be my daily routine.

It is the only time of the day that I devote peacefully to myself. No city crowds, no traffic congestion, no harsh pollution and unnecessary noises. Nothing to drive my thoughts and feelings bad. Don't get me wrong, there's a difference between being lonely and alone. I rarely feel scared at night walking in our area. I feel better if there were less people outside so I don't get any crazy thoughts or suspicions like what we all have daily. I rarely feel lonely as well since I have the pavement, the light posts, the stars and my shadow accompanying me (the silent stray dogs and cats are bonuses). It's the time of the day that I don't think anything about work, family or friends. It's the time where my mind is at rest, busy looking at the surroundings like the trees, the clouds, the stars and some times bats flying. No thoughts of regrets of the past nor the plans of the future. Just my feet on the ground walking, the breeze tingling my hair and skin and the stars twinkling. It's all about the present. Nothing more, nothing less.

There are also a few things that I somehow look forward to while walking on the way home like the barking of the neighborhood dogs when I pass by their houses, the smile of our new old village guard when I greet him magandang gabi or good evening (he never did reply to me in words, just a nod and a smile which was enough), me having a catwalk in he middle of the road when no one is watching and our home dinner since all that walking made me hungry. :)

I missed seeing these small things of the world that I appreciated before. There are indeed certain things that I cannot buy for happiness like these calm and silent nights.
