#dc comics #art #fanart #digital art #bernard dowd #tim drake #timbern #timber #bernard dowd fanart #tim drake fanart #tim drake robin #red robin fanart #robin fanart #dc robin #robin #i put so much more effort into this one than i needed to #but i wanna put it in my portfolio so that’s the price we gotta pay #it looked so shit for so long but i trusted the process and now i think it’s got the best color i’ve managed to do on a comic yet #i also got so many references of comic style streets (esp jorge jimenez’s) bc i wanna get better at drawing cities #it’s so so hard but i think part of the trick is just to put signs on every available vertical surface #i honestly should’ve put more signs i think i held back a bit #street signs advertisements business signs building numbers posters murals etc etc etc #half of them glow half of them don’t #use the perspective as leading lines to draw the eye to characters or speech bubbles #cheat a little on smaller panels by using color blocks and gradients instead or inking #make the foreground primary colors different from the background primary colors #this page by itself took me 10 hrs but a lot of that was fucking around trying to find a flow #i think if i tried to do a similar page again i could get it down to 8 or 9 which is nearly one full work day #good stuff

how funny tadc may be the show that defines the existential dilemma of the late 2020s. no wonder so many people deeply resonate with its theme of finding autonomy among the insane circumstances they find themselves in, very much paralleling our real world as we know it. zooble was actively mourning the future they always hoped for themselves, that they wanted to leave their mark on the world. to abandon that felt like betrayal of the self, proving to others their own worth with something to offer. tadc came at the right time where a lot of people are questioning what autonomy they have in this world. many feel robbed of opportunities and missing important life milestones from the pandemic, all while AI continues to pose as a serious threat to our livelihoods on a very fundamental level. for the characters in the digital circus, radically accepting the situation does not mean it is any less of a shitty one, but moreso poses the question: so things didn’t go as planned, how will you live your life? build and strengthen connections with those around you and you’ll foster hope with every exchange. in turn, you inspire them to keep living, day by day.
