i understand from a marketing perspective why atem is always the strongest one - theres the confusion for people unfamiliar with the media what exactly is going on w atem and yugi along with atems popularity as an invulnerable & extravagant duelist in the same vein as kaiba. theres some sort of feedback loop with atem originally being written as just a symbol of masculinity in yugis mind, then atem growing popular Because he's a shonen character made to be a male fantasy (initially & within the context of the story), which leads to the merch having atem be a lot more powerful a character as yugi in base stats or whatever measure, which Then leads to muddling the symbolic purpose of the ending being yugi 'surpassing' atem as a 'stronger' character. regardless of how agreeable i find that approach to the ceremonial duel, it still shits on the whole thing & just makes it all messy and bland. it ALSO takes away from any sort of depth to atem as a person who has to perform as strong in front of others, though i only see that analysis on like this site or fucking ao3 which arent really demographics to tap into unless it has a massive following.

anyways my boyf just showed me the puzzles and dragons yugioh crossover and they made yugi the weakest out of all of them. will be strangling a bitch.
