Wild opinion, but your character doesn't need a reason to be like that, they can just be like that. It's a character, not a person.

Remus is a speak now stan. Is that because I’m a speak now stan ?
Irrelevant.

hold up hold up
I’m going to try something that won’t be canon compliant but it could still be informative.
So Shiro’s bday is a leap day right? (i mean...someone’s is and i’m guessing it’s shiro based on a few post i’ve seen today)
which means he was born in a leap year, obviously.
So that’s a limited number of years. I reckon the youngest he could be is 17, born in 2000, but that seems a little young tbh. Next possibility is 1996, making him 21, which I think is most likely, and then the oldest I can picture him being is 25, being born in 1992.
So presuming that vld is set in an alternate version of 2017, or for all the aus that are set in 2017, Shiro is most likely 21.
~This is mostly for my own curiosity and peace of mind, vld is most likely set in the future and aus have age changes all the time, so this is all irrelevant, but I find it interesting. Also it really bugs me when things in canon are vague, I like facts so I’m going to pretend this fits into canon so that I can say: ~Pidge = 14 ~Hunk = 17 ~Shiro = 21 ~I really really want to find out the other’s ages now :P
it’s been 84 years since i’ve been on here
Finally, f i n a l l y done with all the exams, which means life’s basically good
