Also I hate that class is compulsory
I canāt concentrate on command, and I know I can listen to the audio at home and look up notes so I wonāt miss out, so I almost always end up on my phone cos thereās no real urgency so why bother. Then I feel guilty and anxious that the teacher and other students think Iām rude. So I try and take notes but now Iām stressed so my brain flatlines. So I go on my phone.
You see where this is going? And Iām stressed so when I get home I want to chill, and do anything but work bc itās stressful, even though itās not actually.
Which is why Iām writing this post in class instead of anything else
I see a lot of posts about adhd being more thenĀ āhyperactivityā and it greatly pleases me but today we are gonna talk about something slightly different.
Something i have personally struggled with my whole life isĀ āmy hyperactivity does not indicate my mood or current healthā
from what i have learned the hyperactivity part of adhd comes from the limited or lack of ability to control socially appropriate emotional reaction, so where most people as they age learn to limit their reactions and emotional intensity to situation adhd people either cant or struggle to. So they tend to express their emotions fully and in the moment.
So this causes a lot of people to assume the adhder in their life is always happy, its not a good indicator and using it as one can very bad.
I can literally be in the worst place or the best and i promise you i will still have the same thrilled ass reaction to a snazzy freaking squid.
in school this really made it hard for me personally to communicate my needs to the people around me, no matter how tired, upset, sick or angry i was, as long as i displayed myĀ āhyperactivityā no one would listen becauseĀ āyour just so happy and energeticā
no brittany im literally dieing i canāt remember what my bed looks like and i spent 6 hours considering dictionary definitions, iāve completely forgotten what im supposed to be doing and im panicking so bad but the teachers dog is really cute so im outputting my emotional distress in excitement because DOG.
Thank you so much for putting this into words, oh my gosh
Iāve never really been able to explain this, but yeah, people never seem to get that I can freak out about a new video game or song by my fave artist, or animal or whatever, but like Iām not āhappyā Iām just currently focused on this one thing that Iām super excited about
Emotional regulation who? Never heard of her? Excuse me while I get really hyped at seeing an old friend, then go home to be really sad again
I have no concept of time, Iām a very in the moment sort of person, if Iām excited now thatās because things are happening right now
When left unchecked this becomes a really unhealthy cycle of ignoring problems by distracting yourself with things until it becomes too much and you have a meltdown
Sometimes I wish that my friends realised that although I joke about being a disaster, and act like its funny that I donāt have a sleep schedule or eat properly, or do my homework etc, its actually not funny I am drowning and trying so hard and when I have good days I am genuinely so proud of myself, and that I make jokes bc Iām scared of whining or making them uncomfortable or being ignored, but when they agree with me and make fun as well that shit hurts.
Like, i get it, and I know its not mean spirited and that they donāt think Iām useless (except when they do). And I never get taken seriously. And Iām actually in a good mood today so this isnāt an Angst Postā¢ļø. Iāve just been reading about adhd stuff and wish they knew how hard it is for me to life and itās not me being careless or lazy or dumb. Cos Iām not any of those things.

You: Dogs are chaotic good whilst cats are the opposite - lawful evil!
Me, an intellectual: Cats are neither lawful nor evil, the truth is they are chaotic neutral and yāall need to accept it.
Proof? Lawful evil does not try to fight the bra that is accidentally thrown on top of it, not does it scream to be let out at 6am, not does it knead it claws on a jigsaw, ruining it whilst demanding cuddles.
A case could be made that lawful evil falls off a desk chair whilst trying to swipe the dog, to which I respond: lawful evil would have been lying in wait with A Plan. Falling off the chair requires true chaotic spontaneity.
You: Dogs are chaotic good whilst cats are the opposite - lawful evil!
Me, an intellectual: Cats are neither lawful nor evil, the truth is they are chaotic neutral and yāall need to accept it.
Hey does anyone know how to become a person with social skills instead of someone who isolated themselves and destroys their friendships when they feel one (1) negative emotion
Hey if youāre ever embarrassed by any scars you have just remember that I have a three inch scar down the length of my forearm from where I scratched myself on a microwave while cleaning
Hey reblog this with your odd scar stories cause I think itās cute and I wanna read em
when i was 8 years old we went to Vieques to visit my uncle. the sink was a stand alone sink that was only held up by pipes and not bolted into the wall. after we landed and went to his apartment i took a shower to get ready for dinner at the resort he worked at. being a small child, i wanted to see what my hair looked like in the mirror after i brushed it and did that thing where you push up on a sink to give yourself a boost to see yourself in the mirror. well thatās all good and fine when you have a cabinet supporting the sink along with a counter, but not the case here. the sink crashed down and sliced my knee open. one of the dogs also licked up the water with the blood and didnāt like me all too much after that. they rushed me to the hospital which only opened like a month before we got there. i got some stitches in my knee and that was that. the cool thing is that itās shaped like a crab claw, and iām a Cancer zodiac. but anyways bolt your fucking sinks into the fucking wall
I have a scar on my thumb because when I was young (I think about 7 or 8) I loved to play with LEGOs and donāt trust what everyone says - they ARE destroyable because I accidentally DID destroy one when I tried to put it somewhere it obviously didnāt belong and it ripped open my thumb as a punishment.Ā
Also, when I was 4 carried a glass ash tray and then dropped it and fell on it. There was a lot of blood and I lost a lot of milk teeth but nowadays you just see a faint scar under my lip because the main damage was IN my mouth lol and no one believes me that it was actually really bad
I have a lotĀ of scars, alright, including one from a bitch in high school who scratched me during p.e. But this is the one with the best story so get ready for dumb six-year-old me.Ā
Ok so here I am, six years old and madlyĀ in love with my uncle (first of all Iām six here and also he is like not even my real uncle so shut up). Weāre at myĀ granddadās home in France on vacation, and Iām home alone with my uncle, his friends, my brother and my grandma. Theyāre like, 22 or something at that point? And theyāre doing these awesome tricks and backflips and cool things in the pool and Iām like ready to impress them or whatever, so I start jumping into the pool as well, thinking I look really cool too. Until I jump and do some sort of twist and hit my chin against the side of the pool, scraping it along the side as I go down. I remember I didnāt feel anything until I get out of the water and Iām crying apparently. My chin is all bloody and scraped open nastily.
But maybe it was a victory after all, as my uncle heaved me out of the water and held me and I was in pain but I was also being wrapped in his towel, and since we were alone and didnāt have a car, my uncle had to walk me to the doctor which was about a ten minute walk. I was super okay with that.Ā
However, my reasons for this were superĀ obvious and my uncle will never stop making fun of me for this- literally every vacation heāll make some kind of joke about it and this will haunt me forever. So yeah, thatās how I got this almost invisible scar under my chin because I was a six year old with a crush lol
I have a scar on my forehead from when I was door handle height and however old door handle height I was obviously wasnāt aware that you have to open doors to go through them.
I also have a scar on my forearm⦠because it turns out pans are fucking hot when you cook in them. And leaning over a pan to reach another is a Bad Plan.
I also have scars on my knuckles from adventure training with the army cadets. We did bouldering indoors on this climbing wall and there was an up and over thing and I thought the easiest way to do the across bit was to use the looped hand holds like monkey bars. Except shoving my hands in the small spaces tore up my hands. I didnāt even realise until someone was like telling me my hands were bleeding.
I also have a scar on my lower back. I was in the shower and dropped my razor, bent to pick it up and caught my back on the bath tap. Didnāt think too much of it as it was just a sore graze except I could barely wear trousers because it rubbed against it. Then it scabbed over and fuck me that hurt like a bitch. Itās now a serious scarā¦
Iām super pale so even a small scratch can become a scar, like I have a few that I know were cat scratches. Anyway, the one that I always see is the one on the pad of my middle finger on my right hand. I got it when I was probably around 10 or 11 and I was spending the summer with my grandparents. Every July 4th weād go to the lake for the big fireworks and I was trying to skip stones but I guess I picked up one that was sharp because when I threw it, it cut open my finger. I didnāt need stitches or anything, just a bandaid but itās still a prominent scar on my finger.
Iāve got a scar on my forehead shaped like an upside down V that runs up into my hairline, that I got when I was 8. Itās still pretty obvious to me, but most people donāt see it these days unless I point it out to them.
My brother used to play volleyball back in high school, and that occasionally meant getting pulled out of school to drive to his away games. My mom and I got to one early, and rather than hang around inside she took me to check out the playground weād passed on the way in - except apparently āthe playground was closingā so that was a no-go (why they had hours for their playground and a dude standing there to enforce them, I have no idea). As weāre walking back, I decided the climb up and sit on a bollard (one of those waist-high-ish poles they use to keep cars from pulling up on the curb). Nbd, usually, Iād done that before, except that the top of this one was rounded. I lost my balance, my hands got trapped between my legs, and I faceplanted straight forward onto concrete. Apparently I never lost consciousness, although I have no memory of the ambulance or the ride to the hospital, only them sewing up my head while I clutched my poor momās hand and a stuffed bear I couldnāt remember getting (apparently the Dutch police gave it to me).
Things that make this story ESPECIALLY fun:
āweād driven from Belgium to the Netherlands, staying within Schengen so it hadnāt mattered that this one time my mom forgot to bring my passport until suddenly we had to go to the hospital and she had no ID for me
āto test for concussion/brain damage they sent this guy in to do some cognitive test things and one of the things he asked me was to count back from a hundred by sevens. Thatās a thing I would struggle to do NOW, imagine how I felt at EIGHT YEARS OLD
āto this day I am baffled that they let me leave the hospital that same night, because I couldnāt walk. My dad had to carry me piggyback into the hotel, with a white bandage wrapped around my head six times and my clothes covered in blood, generally looking like Iād walked off a WWI battlefield. (God bless the people at that hotel who still let us check in, despite my mom and I both being SOAKED in blood, and then had to clean up when I got sick later because, surprise surprise, I was in shock.)
āmy poor brother had to find out this had all happened when one of his teammates wandered in after taking a break outside to tell him his baby sister had split open her head. My dad found out when my mom had to call him and tell him not to meet us at the hotel, but at the hospital
āit was my parentsā anniversary
I got my first ever scar when I was around three, I had been playing in the courtyard outside and because I had been running around recklessly with no care for consequences (as three year olds tend to do) I tripped on the curb and cut my head open with some gravel, one piece of which is still in my head sixteen years later. Or at least, thereās a small round scar just above my hairline the colour of gravel and the hair that grows out of it is brown, not blonde like the rest of it.
My second proper scar (Iām discounting chickenpox and the like) was potentially even dumber because I have no excuse. I was seventeen about to turn eighteen and ice skating with my little brotherās scouts troop (it was a Christmas trip, families were allowed to come) and I was, up until this point, skating rather well. This gave me an unearned sense of confidence.
Then āShut up and dance with meā by Walk the Moon came on. You know the one, and thereās a section of the song that speeds up/picks up energy compared to rest of it. Anyway, since this song began I had been skating around recklessly with no care for the consequences (as I apparently did not learn my lesson) when it reached that point in the song, I sped up, tripped over the break on the front of the blade, and went sprawling across the ice. I grazed my knees and my hands but the worst of it was a line on my hip where my top had ridden up and Iād gotten a seriously deep - like, ice was all caught up in it deep - ice burn. It was brilliant, because I wasnāt bothered that much (for a second I thought Iād broken a lot of important things/that someone would skate over my fingers before I could get up so after that didnāt happen any other injury was a relief) but every other adult was freaking out, including the first aid officer from the scouts whoās āI can handle a bit of blood, let me see - oh my gods thatās awful I canāt look!ā reaction was amazing. The ice rinkās first aid officer thought someone had skated over my hip the way it bled.
Anyway I have a wicked cool scar from that.
Hi, there is this post attempting to discredit another tumblr post going around. What Nicolas Steenhout is saying is merely his opinion rather than the law and in some instances he is outright lying. This misinformation spreading about service dogs has the potential to harm many service dog teams who may be accused of being fakes. Just to note this is about service dogs in the USA only.
@mariagvogel. This isnāt to single you out, just that youāre the person who cross posted this from twitter and that you mentioned not having enough knowledge on service dogs to form a proper opinion.
Iād first like to address the lies of Steenhoutās posts. @lumpatronics is a grown woman, not a teenager, and is working with a professional dog trainer.Ā When the incident took place lumpatronics was in a grocery store when she tripped and dropped Raiderās (her service dog) leash. Raider was found an aisle over, not 2 blocks away, and was not pawing the woman.Ā Raider is still working as a service dog and was never deemed inappropriate as a service dog (doh!).
With that out of the way Iād like to further explain what a service dog is. This is taken directly from ada.gov: Under the ADA, a service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. Ā The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the personās disability.Ā There is no list of official tasks or how the dog must perform them. As long as itās a trained behaviour that mitigates the handlerās disability, it counts. To give you an idea of some tasks a dog might perform here is a list of 143 of them thought the dog only needs to know one task and itās not limited to that list. Youāll seeĀ āalert for helpā is on that list.
Each service dog is uniquely tailored to their handlerās needs. What might work with one service dog team wonāt necessarily work for another. Steenhoutās example of the dog staying with their handler and barking to alert others would not work for lumpatronics because she has sensory issues and would be sent into sensory overload from the barking while recovering from her seizure. A dog being trained to find help is a perfectly valid and legal task that isnāt unheard of in seizure response dogs.
Service dogs are required to be leashed unless the leash interferes with oneās disability or performing a task. From ada.gov: Under the ADA, service animals must be harnessed, leashed, or tethered, unless these devices interfere with the service animalās work or the individualās disability prevents using these devices. In that case, the individual must maintain control of the animal through voice, signal, or other effective controls. Since Raider was tasking he was considered under other effective control.
While service dogs are not legally required to wear a vest that does not mean vests are a scam. Some service dog handlers choose to utilize a vest some donāt. Registries are a scam but just somebody registered their dog with one doesnāt necessarily mean the dog is a fake service dog. The handler may have simply not have known better. As far as Iām aware Raider is not registered as a service dog so Iām not sure why it was brought up.
Other things to note is that while Labradors, Golden Retreivers, Poodles, and mixes of the 3 are the most commonly seen as service dogs, there is no restriction on what breeds are allowed to be service dogs (Q22). It is also not legally required for the dog to be professionally trained and handlers with owner trained dogs have just as many rights as handlers with organization trained dogs (Q5). There is no restrictions on where the dog comes from or what age it is either. Breeder, rescue, or the family dog are all valid choices if the dog has the right temperament for service dog work.
The best thing to do if you see a service dog team is to ignore the dog. I hear a lot of people say that while they donāt pat service dogs they always make sure to tell the dogās handler how the dog is doing a good job. While itās coming from a good place I know a lot of handlers would prefer you didnāt. They are just trying to go through their day like anybody else but usually get stopped because of their dogs. Service dogs are medical equipment. You wouldnāt stop somebody to tell them their cane, wheelchair, oxygen tank, etc, is doing a good job, would you?
This is longer than I intended and their was more things I wanted to add but Iām having a hard time remembering them and Iām running out of energy for this. I hope what Iāve said makes sense and that Iāve educated a few people about service dogs. Here are some links to service dog handlers correcting this post. @pavusiing has a good response to this post here, @ofspaceandboys here, and @coconutsake here. Iām sure there are others but these are the only ones that have come across my dash. While not made as a response to Steenhoutās post @astraltailwags has a very good post about fake service dogs here.

I havenāt posted anything on this I donāt believe, but yes I was disappointed to see that Twitter thread. Thanks for including my post, Iām very happy itās still getting attention because the SD community can be a brutal place
My friend pointed out to me tonight how when Iām a little tipsy I become much calmer and more open with people, and it really clicked how obvious the difference must be to people. Whilst completely sober I donāt know how to react, and social interactions seem to run out of sync with my brain, but a little (I stress a little) bit of alcohol usually makes it click into place, and Iām much much more confident communicating and Iām better at it. I just handnāt realised how noticable it was to others, especially as those others are usually drinking too. Iām more competent whilst tipsy.
This is basically me finally putting my thoughts on this into words, but the general idea has been in my brain for about two years. And recently Iāve discovered something about myself which potentially might explain this, and I guess this is an attempt to both document it, and release these thoughts so they stop clogging up my brain. Let yāall know if my hunch is correct?
Imagine being mad at women for being nice to each other and tweeting about it:
Then imagine that tweet backfiring! Lmbo
The entire thread is filled with women complimenting each other. I loved it! āŗļøāŗļø
