What if and hear me out. The reason why Lucanis goes so hard for Neve is because Spite is so interested in Rook at the start. It scares him to think that maybe Spite will come out more if he is around you so he goes down a different path. Then after Rook chooses someone else, falls for someone else Lucanis has to tell Spite it can't happen, wont happen with Rook. That's when Spite is also talking about Lucanis going for Neve. But he is still spiteful at the loss of Rook and Lucanis has to live with that regret
