Alt Camp is a shire with an important architectural heritage coming from the agrarian cooperatives in the early 20th century, as well as the Santes Creus medieval monastery. Its capital city is Valls.

Valls is known around all Catalonia mainly for two things: castells and calçots. The Xiquets de Valls, the local castellers (the Catalan tradition of building “human towers”) are one of the best in all Catalonia, and this tradition is very intense in the area.

The tradition of eating grilled calçots (the long sweet spring onions) with romesco sauce nowadays is popular in all of Catalonia, but it originated from Valls in the 19th century. Every winter, many people come to Alt Camp to hold calçotades, and since 1982 Valls celebrates an annual festival of calçots where about 35,000 people come to eat them together cooked different ways.
