Weekly altar/shrine cleaning done, plus, first money bowl.

It's quite humid today, so I'm sweating badly, ick. But I was there. Cleaned my altar and made the money bowl I've told myself I would make. I normally do my cleaning in the morning. Not today. Admittedly, it's difficult for me to feel the connection with Veles strongly recently, but even if I couldn't, I was there. Cleaned the altar and burning a scented candle (white sage and lavender) as an offering. Veles seems to have no issue with it. I did feel his presence after mediating just a bit. I knew it was him even if I couldn't exactly feel it. It's a covering like feeling. Thought I would share.

So, I mentioned I wanted to talk a bit more about Lucifer in my last post. And it seems I found another opening. A month long devotional period a group called the Luciferian Dominion is calling Advent of Lucifer. The name is awesome. I'm not affiliated with the group (or any group for that matter), and while I definitely find themes compelling, I had some ideas of my own for artwork (I have an art journal for Him) in addition to some other ideas.

For now, I'm probably going structure this the way I did my #julyforloki posts. (Note: When I discovered July for Loki after returning to social media after a number of years of private practice, what I found was a handful of Lokeans sharing what they did each day in addition to their usual devotional practice. I liked it. Anyway, I didn't actually discover the origins or the prompts that started surfacing -- as a general rule, I'm not fond of prompts.) So I have paintings and collage work planned (I'll share the works in progress as well as completed pieces), and discussions about working with Lucifer. And Loki will be part of some of these discussions too.

Anyway, I started the month cleaning altars and making incense as a post cleaning offering. The blend includes lavender, cinnamon, cloves, frankincense, dried rose petals, and mugwort.

For now, I will use the hashtag #adventoflucifer. I will include #octoberforlucifer as well. If I come up with another hashtag that isn't associated with a group, I will share it as well for any who are interested in joining.

This is my favorite way to cleanse altars 🕯️🙏💃🏽

I clean my Altar with rubbing alchoal and cleanse it with a white candle, and 4 inscece (this is my Ancestor altar so they're selected accordingly). During this whole process I play music to cleanse the space by sound and to call my family spirits. I have an ancestor Playlist on Spotify that's my go-to.

I place the incense in a clockwise fashion with the candle in the center (I place these on a crossroads drawn in my ancestor-oil -- this can get appropriative so maybe skip this bit if your unsure)

I clean and bless, concescrate, and dress/ anoint everything. This is important!!

Arrange your altar how you see fit, include pictures and names of ___ spirit(s) you're creating the space for.

At this point, the details are kinda dealer's choice -- I go into my regular ancestor ritual -- Now's the time to light candles and make offerings.

And that's it! That's how I prepare my Altar and shrines 😊😊

I tend to find myself deep-cleaning altars and shrines with the waxing moon, so about once or twice a month. In between I clean dust and ash and offerings regularly.

Cleaning your altar

This isn’t an official way to do it and is just what I do. Feel free to switch things or adapt the process for your own needs. :)

1. First, you want to carefully take everything off the altar, quickly look it over for any signs of uncleanliness or wear, and set it somewhere safe.

2. Next if you use an altar cloth you want to take it off and shake it out, even throw it in the washing machine. You can put a temporary or new altar cloth on depending on the season.

3. I highly recommend wiping the table or surface down with a natural based cleaner. Being an Aphrodite devotee, I usually use a spray bottle full of rose water but anything without harsh chemicals will work.

4. Take a look at the items you took off your altar for any damage and clean them up again with a natural cleaner (you don’t want to damage them further). 

5. Put the new or clean altar cloth on the altar and then arrange your items, switching out old things for items of the new season. 

6. Consecrate the rearranged altar with a few words, a prayer, spell, or whichever. And you’re done!

Getting wax out of an altar cloth: One of my favorite altar cloths got covered in wax after a previous ritual. It's annoying, however kind of unavoidable when you use as many candles as I do. I've come to find out that the best way to get it out is using a regular clothes iron. Cover the wax with a paper towel and iron over it on the highest heat setting safe for the cloth. After a few passes the wax will be almost completely gone. Hope this helps!

#julyforloki This morning, I cleaned another of His altars. I decided to photograph in evening this time... just because... Loki was gifted with a new pair of taper candle holders for this altar and a new red velvet altar cloth (for some reason, this altar seems to want red velvet). This morning's offering: homemade oatmeal raisin cinnamon bread and a cup of coffee.

I was cleaning the altar and the puppy and the cat decided to watch me. The cat sat on the chair staring at the closet and the puppy came up to me and smelt the fur tails and fox mask I have. He didn't nip at anything surprisingly. It's interesting to see the way animals react to magick and spirit work.
