Elrond, Glorfindel and Gandalf by Alystraea
Music by treelight, at the House of Finwë.
Foreground: Turgon playing a flute, Galadriel annoyed by Fëanor, Finrod and Maglor singing a duet, Aredhel playing a tambourine. (Aredhel and Galadriel are the same age, and maybe the elven equivalent of 13-14 years old here.)
Background: Eärwen and Finarfin dancing, Celegorm objecting to Huan's singing, Fingolfin with baby Argon and Anairë, Fingon and Maedhros more interested in each other's company than in music.

Maglor through the ages up to modern times. Zoom it and check out the details, like Vingelot in the upper left, the satellite in the upper right. Amazing work.
"Now when first Vingilot was set to sail in the seas of heaven, it rose unlooked for, glittering and bright; and the people of Middle-earth beheld it from afar and wondered, and they took it for a sign, and called it Gil-Estel, the Star of High Hope. And when this new star was seen at evening, Maedhros spoke to Maglor his brother, and he said: 'Surely that is a Silmaril that shines now in the West?'
And Maglor answered: 'If it be truly the Silmaril which we saw cast into the sea that rises again by the power of the Valar, then let us be glad; for its glory is seen now by many, and is yet secure from all evil.' Then the Elves looked up, and despaired no longer; but Morgoth was filled with doubt."

@alystraea mentioned you on a post “Glorfindel recognizes an old friend behind the beard and wrinkles....”
@joyfullynervouscreator I can totally see that "gotta do something!" moment happening in Valinor c.1600 (except they aren't about to repeat the War of Wrath)! I think my headcanon's not that different - except that it attributes greater powers of foresight and advanced planning to the Ainur. Sauron began work in Barad-dur c.1000, so I imagined the Ainur across the ocean feeling some dark, ominous stirrings, and deciding to send Glorfindel after some deliberation ;)
I agree with you about dark stirrings, but in my head, Sauron’s construction project merited little notice (considering it took him 600 years to have it finished - granted, he was in Eregion for some of those centuries, but still - I don’t think the initial construction work was necessarily enough to be felt across the ocean). Once the first Rings were made, is when I hc that the Ainur began to realise that something serious was happening, but at that time he was still keeping up his Annatar guise, so they had little to go on. By the time the Three(1590) were made, this is where things began to get critical, because no matter how benign Celebrimbor thought his project was, the power necessary to create something like that would have rippled across the fabric of the world. I don’t know how long it actually takes to get from Valinor to Middle-Earth, but the decade before the One was made is where I put my “oh, shit!”-moment.
