Blusher (Amanita rubescens)
Beautiful little baby blusher just waiting to open up - I love spotting these all through the summer. A decent edible if thoroughly cooked - it contains a hemolytic toxin when raw.
Amanita crenulata--Poison Champagne Amanita
So I think it is not fair at all that I could be shown such a magical sight in the woods, and not be able to eat any of it. I'm actually not a 100% on the identity, but that's even more reason to assume it's poisonous, especially an Amanita species. All photos mine, unedited. It was very overcast that day, on and off raining, and difficult to focus under the canopy.
Amanitas are very attractive mushrooms, but also have some of the most deadly species around. I'm not aware of any deaths caused by this species (if it's the one I think it is), but it is known to be poisonous. Enjoy with eyes only.
