as someone who just got their degree in biophysics i cannot stop thinking about Ava generating a miniature electromagnetic field when she phases. so many of our cellular processes revolve around electrically charged ions and if we assume her phasing “tears apart” her cells like she describes in AMATW, these ions are presumably free-floating when she phases. since her condition’s official name is “molecular disequilibrium”, there are likely some inherent energetic disequilibria in her cells, and constantly deconstructing and reconstructing them would require massive amounts of energy to bring all those ions back into place.

i’m picturing her having to set down her phone before she phases so she doesn’t EMP it on-contact, or someone trying to grab her while she’s in the process of phasing and getting shocked. maybe part of the suit’s function is to ground her electromagnetism, so when she’s not wearing it’s very easy for her to accidentally give people a static shock or short out the lights in her bedroom (Bob is always more than happy to go downstairs and flip the breakers). maybe she can even serve as an electrical conductor when she’s phased, allowing other airborne ions or electricity to travel along her scattered cellular ions. maybe thunderstorms make her skin tingle even when she’s not phased because of her inherent cellular energy imbalance interacting with the electricity in the air. maybe she can’t phase while somebody uses a compass on a mission so she doesn’t misdirect it. maybe the fridge magnets move towards her slightly when she phases through Yelena to get her tea out of the cabinet on early mornings, but she always physically ducks around Bucky so she doesn’t interact with his arm’s circuitry.

something might be found, a post-series fix it fic for ER (1994). Abby Lockhart/John Carter in pandemic 2020, where, older and wiser, Abby and Carter finally get their timing right. This is my comfort fic and my current WIP. It was inspired by seeing Noah Wyle in doctors’ scrubs again.

if you don’t, don’t, a post-movie fix it fic for Scream (2022) where Dewey Riley lives. Rated M. Gale Weathers POV. “She’s worn her unlovable traits like a suit of armor for over fifty years and she’s never once been able to explain why this man makes her want to lay down her weapons.”

stop making this hurt, a post-series fix it fic for Ted Lasso. Rated T, RoyJamieKeeley. Roy Kent POV. “If a triangle is the strongest shape, Roy Kent has some thinking to do.” This has maybe the best joke line I’ve ever written.

We Get By, a fix it fic for Captain America: Civil War that I wrote with @softbrah - we’re both Team Cap and we hated Civil War. It’s Stucky and ScottHope (Ant-Man and the Wasp) centric with some shifting POVs. Rated T. “While Steve goes on the run with Bucky and Wanda in Europe, Sam asks for a new recruit and winds up with the matched set of Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne. Natasha has a plan and Clint would really just like to go back to his farm now, please.” Finishing this thing made me really proud.

I Knew You Were Trouble, Rated G, ScottHope. I took a romance writing class in hopes of writing my own fiction but ended up writing a more romantic version of Ant-Man (2015).
