Alexander's dark outline was barely noticed in the thrum of the busy club. He sat in a back out-of-the-way corner with his shoulders hunkered and his gaze empty while he blankly observed the smiling faces throughout the dimmed atmosphere. Xander had chosen his solitude with a careful eye and a calculated premeditation. None had taken interest in him, and for that he was grateful. His only intention tonight was to drink and have a good, but innocent, time. A thumb fiddled idly with the ring resting tightly around his third finger. By now, the university student barely noticed his habit. Playing with the solid wedding band had almost become second nature.
His hand reached forward to pick up the crystal glass before him, and he lifted the nearly empty vessel to his lips to take a sip of the sweet, yet acidic liquid. This was only his first cup of poison, but already his mind was numbing from its effects. It wouldn't be long before a pleasant buzz settled over his addled mind, numbing his thoughts and dulling his senses.
