Heracles could barely stop his head from hitting the table. He let out a loud yawn and tried to keep himself upright. But he couldn’t stop the waves of drowsiness that plagued him. He knew he was going to fall asleep, and it was going to be soon. Tempted to curse the air, he reached under the table for a cat.

“Hello, little kitty cat,” he mumbled, “You are looking quite beautiful today.”

The cat meowed back at him and Heracles let a lazy smile cross his face.

“Since Alfred is not home yet, I will cuddle you, instead, my friend,” he said, giving the cat’s head a smooch.

The cat did not have any complaints, so Heracles rested his head on the table and held the cat in his lap.

And he conked out like that.

Alfred was late. Late, late, late. He fumbled with his keys as he struggled to unlock his car door. First it was a meeting at work that ran way overtime. Then it was his boss pulling him aside to give him another project to do- with no extra pay, mind you. Then finally, he forgot his keys on his desk when he left and had to run back for them.

Once he got in the car, he had one hand on the steering wheel and his other hand on the McDonald’s burger that he had in his bag for lunch, but didn’t have the chance to eat.

Luckily, his house wasn’t too far from work. Alfred was exhausted from his day and just wanted to get home already.

He drove about 10 miles above the speed limit and got there in seven minutes.

Rushing in, he planned to lie on the couch and maybe watch some football if anything good was on. But walking through the kitchen, he noticed Heracles asleep at the table. It was unusual. Alfred usually noticed Heracles asleep on either the couch or in their bed, so it felt wrong to him. He didn’t just wanna leave Heracles to lie with his head down on the uncomfortable table.

Alfred picked the cat up off of Heracles’s lap, taking care as so not to wake him.

“Get down, fatty,” Alfred muttered, gently putting the cat on the floor.

Then he turned back to Heracles and tried to quietly pull the chair away from the table. It wasn’t very quiet, but Heracles didn’t stir. For a moment, Alfred felt his heart stop. Heracles didn’t even wake up from that. But Alfred felt more relieved than he ever had before when he grabbed Heracles’s wrist and did feel his pulse.

“Let’s get you upstairs,” Alfred muttered, scooping Heracles up in his arms.

“Hng, Γαμώ την ναρκοληψία,” Heracles mumbled groggily, not fully waking up.

“Yes, whatever you just said, babe,” Alfred murmured, nuzzling Heracles’s nose.

Taking care not to bump Heracles into any walls, Alfred walked him up the stairs and put him in bed, covering him and giving him a smooch on the nose.

“Night night, sweetheart,” Alfred whispered, blowing a kiss as he walked out and shut the bedroom door, his bad day forgotten by then.
