Just got the email from my first, and long-time favorite manu that I’ve worked with since 2013 or so that’s saying goodbye because they are closing down due to costs and America being a huge piece of shit. If you ever ordered an art book or a button badge or a hoodie or a keychain or those iron man watches I did for a while there, or a body pillow from me: those were manufacturer by them for years. They were great to work with, with dedicated people who knew what they were doing and did it well, who loved art, and who genuinely enjoyed making all our silly little things with us and I’m just so fucking angry that a handful of stupid, pointless, evil people are destroying every single good thing in this world. Apple Avoids U.S. Tariffs on Smartwatches, Earbuds

Apple dodged stinging duties on its smartwatches and wireless earbuds after the U.S. excluded those gadgets from tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese goods.

Apple has escaped Trump’s tariffs but not China’s. China will retaliate. 

There are American components that are shipped to China for assembly that could be tariffed by China. And most of the components are made in Asia.

Because Apple assembles almost all of its gadgets in China, its watches, AirPods and other devices are vulnerable to the Trump administration’s plans to widen the scope of tariffs on Chinese imports—a risk Apple warned about earlier this month.

That reliance also could make the iPhone and other devices vulnerable if Chinese officials follow through on retaliatory moves to restrict sales of materials, equipment and parts key to U.S. manufacturers—measures The Wall Street Journal on Sunday reported that Beijing is considering.

The timing of the countries’ new measures could be especially bad for Apple, which this week starts shipping two of its three new iPhones and a new smartwatch. Those new devices are expected to help fuel the company’s sales in the final three months of the year, when Christmas shopping helps deliver about one-third of Apple’s annual revenue.
