An American Werewolf in London
I really enjoyed watching this movie. I generally avoid watching older horror movies because I find the practical effects and special effects to be comical, which takes away from the overall “horror” theme. However, throughout this movie, I found the practical effects and makeup to be outstanding. David’s transformation scene, in particular, was extremely impressive. Being able to watch David transform into a werewolf, without the camera panning away, allowed the audience to better understand all the pain one would endure while undergoing such a transformation.
I also really enjoyed the plot of the movie. I found it very interesting how David and Jack were warned to “stay on the path”. Such a warning was very reminiscent to Little Red Riding Hood. While the movie may not have been very scary to me, I did find the suspenseful scenes to be very well done. I particularly enjoyed the scene where ‘werewolf David” stalks the man in the subway station. The feeling of suspense was captured perfectly with the angles and perspectives the chase was filmed at.
Even though the movie was clearly a horror film (that car crash scene was especially unsettling to watch), it had a surprising amount of comic relief. Jack’s “undead” character was very funny and it was interesting to get his perspective on things.
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. I think it had a perfect combination of horror and comedy. I thought that the movie was going to be one of those films that was only good when it came out, but over the years became less appealing. However, this movie proved me wrong!
