Ough the thing about Faeline is that they are monsters, always. Kind and caring and viciously honest but always monsters. They are creatures who were not meant to exist and who's birth came about from betrayal and you can tell it, you can see it, because they simply don't fit in anywhere. Even with the Elytrians, the closest the Faeline come to having an equal, they are still too much. The plan to deal with the Split is to prove there are "some good faeline" but there aren't.
Mercury was absolutely willing and ready to pin Sohr down and rip her limb from limb for an imagined threat, and is even more so now. The only thing stopping him is Díi's request.
If Aiolus actually attacks a Faeline then Díi will tear his soul out and eat it right there, and she won't flinch or regret it because Díi doesn't let herself feel regret. She is a scarier monster than Sohr because her lines are different and infinitely more violent and Sohr has already flinched back too many times, Díi won't pretend to be anything else for her.
Cats' best friend was an Elytrian and that friendship was taboo because they were dead serious about dissecting and eating each other if their immortality ever failed.
Cœra had the most Elytrian friends, and was the first to tell Violet not to waste her care on Elytrians because Cœra nearly died for daring to care about people who should have been her equals and ran anyway.
Sundae is Violet's favorite Faeline Mom and she's Flicker's worst nightmare because she is as insidious in her queenhood and kindness as Tux was in his cruelty and those three things are simply the same actions only separated by which side of the effects you're on.
"your last resort is my first response" and "I have never pretended to be anything else" and "I will not betray my people just because you have a weak stomach"
They are monsters. The only thing that can tame this kind of monster is love and acceptance but they're so easy to flinch away from first, and once you've flinched... by then you're already six miles behind the starting line.

Character poetry, because for all the ways I am not a poet, sometimes I try to write essays and the words come out wrong.
Sunlight's Requiem (Lyr)
And did you know I love you?
It’s quiet truth
Like waves and wind
The gentle shushing of voiceless things.
It’s broken cups
And empty hands
And claws kept carefully at bay.
All the things I never said---
Never did---
For fear I’d bring you harm.
And did you know I love you
In lullabies and hymns
In presents left by waysides
And listener’s quiet hums,
In flowers bloomed in darkness
By artificial suns.
And did you know I love you.
Is that too much to ask?
For broken things,
wandering things,
And things to be undone.

character that claws their way out of the grave and builds their new life directly on top of it, while doggedly pursuing the exact goals that led them to the grave the first time.
