"how long are you going to keep this up?"
❝ if you’re just going to argue with me then you can go home, ❞ normally, delainey is calm, collected, playful — but her sleep disorder has kept her from having a full night’s rest, or any rest at all, for five days, and she’s exhausted. ❝ i just need… to rest, and i can’t. i can’t because every time i close my eyes, i start panicking. but you don’t understand that, do you? ❞ she didn't mean to snap at her companion.
❝ so he also told you he'd be here waiting for you? god, he's such an idiot. ❞ mason shook his head, laughing to himself. his friend james had told him to meet him at the coffee shop because they needed to talk. apparently, it was all a lie. he had planned out this whole thing so mason and this girl, who also thought james was going to be there waiting for her, could go on a blind date. james had told him he'd find mason a girl eventually, but he never thought he was being serious. now he was standing there, next to a girl he didn't know, not really sure of what he was supposed to do.
" did i, uh, wake you up?"

Little lost, cute puppies are not on her agenda. In fact, she doesn't even like dogs ! So why she's standing in front of the window, looking at a bunch of dogs with adoration in her eyes is baffling to her. What is she going to do with this? Go in and get another pet? She might buy a fish, but her cat might eat it... So what does she do? She turns to the stranger just walking out of the pet shop and asks quietly, "How did you resist the urge?" Since clearly, they have no puppy in their arms.
