The Big Girl's Guide to Buying Lingerie: A Cowboy Love Story by Amie Stuart
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
-Freebie, always a plus
-Like the meeting online, hate in real life/You’ve Got Mail trope.
-Has a BBW heroine who is actually BBW, again, this is my jam so I was into it. *does a little awkward happy dance*
-Part of series, but still worked as a standalone. I didn’t need to read the previous books, but there’s alot of characters in this one, so I would’ve liked to have had that backstory. But the freebie wasn’t the first one, so...you know, I made do.
-The characters aren’t cookie cutter and have distinct personalities. I know I did not like Jade Skye (yes, that’s the heroine’s full name) when I met her, but I respect that she was a product of her upbringing and she does grow emotionally throughout the story to someone that I didn’t actively dislike. Same for Rowdy (these names were killing me), he’s not perfect and yet he does have a distinct arc and grows as the book goes on. However…
-Lines are crossed. If y’all know how I roll with my romances (no OW/OM contact unless it’s erotica) then you KNOW I was displeased when I hit about the halfway point. Yes, it colored my perception and lowered my rating BUT, I did keep reading because the writing was interesting, so kudos for that.
-It doesn’t all come together. Unfortunately, to me romance is king. If I’m not feeling that, then it falls flat. Also, the ending felt a bit rushed and while I liked aspects of the story, the romance turned out to be more Price is Right horn than my jam, as it were.
The Bottom Line 2 stars
It was an borderline ok book that could have been more had I loved the romance.
