Various Dark Hunter Heads
Some unique takes on some Dark Hunters, featuring the first instance of Firedracax's concept

what if the dark hunters got the gwp treatment?
So late last year I went on a bit of a rampage making personal redesigns for like... all of the Dark Hunters. Literally all of them (at least that we know of.) My relationship with the concept of the Dark Hunters is a bit complicated, mainly because back in 2004 I kind of assumed the name was sort of a catch-all term for mercenaries in that universe and wound up being pretty disappointed that wasn’t the case and they were an organization with a head and everything. But when I think of them as just an extremely prolific criminal organization, one of many, with The Shadowed One as functionally their Kingpin, I’m more on board with the idea. As a matter of fact I’ve kind of grown to love TSO, this neurotic megalomaniac who has no fewer than three people following him around everywhere he goes. He’s so petty, it’s great.
Anyhow, I rounded up some of my favorite designs from this period. As always, I drew inspiration from elsewhere when making these-- @agatharights is to blame for the general design philosophy behind The Shadowed One and Conjurer, as I used some of her Vortixx concepts as a base, @lesbianchemicalplant‘s AI generated masks were used for the masks of Lariska and Gatherer (even if the former is only barely visible in the roll cage) specifically these two, and @betarotai’s Dark Hunter art helped me to break down some of the more complex or abstract designs, like Tyrant and Amphibax there. I’m particularly proud of how Ravager and Prototype, of all characters, turned out-- Ravager’s original model just kind of sucks and Prototype is just the 2003 Makuta set with some extra parts slapped on, so I gave myself carte blanche to really give them their own personalities and I think they turned out great.
Dark Hunters - Amphibax
Made a quick list of all the Dark Hunters that could be posted together, based on powers, personality, history, looks, etc (so I don’t have to think on the spot). Amphibax stuck out because he’s the sole underwater Dark Hunter. I think I could’ve partnered him with Vengeance since they’re both hung up about past, but I already posted the former, so... yeah.
Anyway.
Amphibax isn’t anything fancy. He seems to be Metru Nokama + Hordika Whenua combiner with Lewa’s swords, Panrahk staff blades, a Nuva chest for head and some other pieces. Nothing to really write home about (save for the whip - curious decision. It kinda works).
Not much else to say - moving on.
I feel like Poison’s official photo does NOT quite accurately capture what he looks like;
Like a few other fan creations such as the Frost Beetle, he looks completely different when viewed from any other angle. This is almost as bad as Amphibax; In Amphibax’s case he looks better from an unofficial angle (since you can actually notice his head), while Poison looks worse.
Skyrise - Kaenis
A lesson in “biting off more than you can chew”.

how did amphibax lose his hand?
The seas of the Matoran universe were uncharted and unknown for most of history. Only Ehlek’s ancient kingdom had any knowledge of the bottom of the sea, and those records were lost to the surface when his people retreated below Zakaz. In the end, we only have Amphibax’s word to explain.
He claims that he scoured the depths of every ocean for his lost master, even the vicious South Seas around those savage islands. The tales he tells of vast, primordial Rahi, however, are hard to believe. Sea serpents 65 feet long, intelligent jellyfish, rays capable of flying above the water... the fancies of a Ga-Matoran’s overactive imagination.
Worse yet, Amphibax has blamed different creatures for his injury in different tellings. Once, he claimed it was a massive shark, larger than a Razor Whale. Another time, a fistfight with an enormous, aggressive shrimp. I, personally, like best the creature that mimicked seaweed with its tentacles, only to draw prey into the knife-like teeth at its center. However, I doubt Amphibax would ever admit he lost his protosteel talons to an overgrown anemone.
In the end, the best comfort is knowing that his stories are wildly exaggerated. Surely, no serpent could ever be longer than Po-Metru... if such a thing existed, we would have known, and would have dealt with it. What are Toa for, if not dying in droves for the sake of wildlife control?
