Akai Shuichi and Furuya Rei are BOTH the Cause of Morofushi Hiromitsu's Death: An Analysis
Note: This analysis is meant for those who think Rei was the only indirect cause of Hiro's death. I myself think no one at fault, it's just the poor timing and overall poor situation.
If you think "Scotch shot himself because of Rei's steps, so it's Rei's fault."
What if I said Akai also played a part in this 'fault'?
Because in the first place, the gun Hiro used was stolen from Akai.
Perhaps Akai was concerned that Hiro would attack him... After all, Hiro did positioned the gun towards him. Because of that, Akai's first initiative was to make himself to be harmless. He didn't want to be shot at, so he need to make Hiro less cautious.
But it's a wrong move. Akai realised it instantly because Hiro immediately tried to kill himself. If not for his incredibily quick thinking and ability to stop the revolver, Hiro would succesful in his deed before Rei even arrived.
Here's the thing: I think what Akai did, while it managed to stop Hiro, it's not the most appropriate course of action.
If you want to talk with someone, to save him, and especially this person is keen to kill himself for a 'greater good', and you are the supposed-to-be enemy of his... Then, the most important thing is to remove the weapon. Throw, kick, pummel the weapon away, both from yourself and from the person you talk with. Talk with empty hand. Give zero chance for the other person to change his mind, nor to think that you will change your mind. This action would seem very offensive to the other person at first, but it's also the quickest way to calm him down without giving any chance of possible killing move.
Akai failed to do that. He stopped Hiro, but he failed to remove the gun. Akai acted more passively to not trigger Hiro, but by doing so, Akai also assisted Hiro's death without meaning to.
Because, if I'm being very honest, even if Rei didn't appear from the stairs...
Hiro would still choose to kill himself in the end.
Because he wouldn't dare to trust Akai Shuichi with a mere few words. It's not that he's stubborn fool, but it's a basic instinct for undercover agent to be suspicious.
Moreover, Hiro wasn't alone. Sure, any undercover agent would be afraid that their family and friend would be known if they're caught. But Hiro has more. He's incredibly afraid that he would drag down his fellow undercover agent, Rei, who also his childhood bestfriend, one of the most precious people in his life, the one that has always besides him for almost 20 years, and the one that soothe him from the huge trauma of losing his parents in brutal way, making him able to speak again.
Rei became a revenge-driven mad person towards Akai after losing Hiro and all his friends. Then, what would Hiro become?
Hiro didn't want to leave any chance.
Furuya Rei was the trigger, while Akai Shuichi was the tool.
For Hiro's plan to work, both need to coexist. Without the trigger, the tool would be useless. Without the tool, the trigger would be pointless.
In a way, if we wanted to blame the fault of Hiro's death, it's because Akai's passive action, and also Rei's aggressive action.
At the first glance, Rye was a cold man with a terrifyingly accurate sniping skill, while Bourbon was a cunning and obnoxious intelligence officer.
But behind their persona, Akai Shuichi, who's always calm and calculated his chance, and Furuya Rei, who has been an aggresive person since he's young.
.... Hey, don't you think if their position are reversed, the end result would actually be good?
Because Akai didn't know for sure Hiro would actually commit suicide after his gun was stolen, and because his position as American FBI towards the Japanese PSB, Akai still have his own reservation when facing Hiro.
But, if Rei was the person in front of Hiro, Rei wouldn't let Hiro to touch any weapon. If Hiro touch anything, Rei, with his almost two decades of knowledge about Hiro's personality, would just immediately pummel the gun away from Hiro. He wouldn't ever think that Scotch would shoot Bourbon. Because Furuya Rei was Morofushi Hiromitsu's bestfriend.
To stop Hiro's tragedy, at first, we need Rei's aggresiveness and knowledge to hold Hiro back, and Akai's calmness and decisive quick thinking to find the best way to save Hiro, either by faking Hiro's death or other plan.
Well, time to write Chronostasis V2 fanfic, I guess ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧ this time, with an actual, better ending.
This is the end of my analysis! Thank you for your willingness to read! If you have some additional opinion, I'll be very happy to hear that!
Scotch, Rye, Bourbon.
Morofushi Hiromitsu, Akai Shuichi, Furuya Rei.
MPD's PSB, FBI, NPA's PSB.
They risked their life for their mission. Their purpose.
Even if one fell, the other two need to stand up and go on towards their final mission.
