Ashes of the dead
She stood outside the carefully marked perimeter looking at the ruins; the ruins of the town she had grown up in. It was ironic how she always said she wanted to get the hell out of there, be nowhere near that blasted town, but now this place called to her. From where she was standing she could see the half-ruined redbrick clocktower in the town square with everything standing between that and her torn apart. ---This wasn’t the place she knew but then again she wasn’t the same girl who lived there either. No, that was a lie; she was still that girl only now her scars were so smooth and polished that she almost seemed normal to the untrained eye.
She wondered if she had enough power in her to reverse this; to turn back the clock and revive this town, the world she used to live in, but she wasn’t that naive or strong. But she was sharp and wary, her senses were yet to fail her so she knew. ---She knew she wasn’t alone. “Pathetic isn’t it? ---What this town has become. Ruins. Nobody trying to fix it...” she mused not turning to look at the other person standing there, watching.
In The Flesh has completely broken me. Please send help.
[in Natasha's room]
The being inside Beth's body sat with her legs crossed on Natasha's bed. "A man of words and not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds. And when the weeds begin to grow, it's like a garden full of snow." she recited with the voice of a little girl holding the book wide open, even though she wasn't looking at it. Her eyes were too black to see and Beth knew the little rhyme by heart anyway. "And when the snow begins to fall, it's like a bird upon the wall." the voice deepened and she looked towards the open window by the bed. A flock of birds suddenly flew in --only it wasn't birds, it was a mammal; bats. "And when the bird away does fly, it's like an eagle in the sky." the bats filled the room, every corner of it, batting their wings, some even sitting close to her for a second but none of them hurt her.
"And when the sky begins to roar, it's like a lion at the door." she turned her head towards the door, to see Natasha though she had been well aware of her presence there the whole time. "And when the door begins to crack, it's like a stick across your back." the voice became sweeter again, it almost sounded like Beth --nornal Beth, not the hypnotized version of her. "And when your back begins to smart,it's like a penknife in your heart." she stared back at the wall ahead of her. The voice changed again, to that of the little girl. "And when your heart begins to bleed..you're dead, and dead, and dead indeed." she said turning to look at Natasha with a sadistic smile on her face and with a twitch of her hand, the bats flew towards the blonde vampire ready to attack.
