For visitors to #Hiroshima, this is probably the one dish you should have, anago meshi #あなご飯. Stewed sea eel over rice that's cooked with the eel broth. The most famous shops are near Miyajima, but there are a few places in the center of the city that serve up a good version, and Nakaya is one of them. This family-run, modest old school izakaya serve these for lunch. Though they're similar, anago-meshi is different from unagi donburi, which use a different species of eel (and anago isn't endangered like unagi is), and they aren't grilled like unagi. Instead, you get an infusion of soft, meaty anago, along with the rice that has absorbed a lot of the flavor of anago as well. Although it's a regional specialty, locals don't eat it that often since you can only get them at shops that specialize in the dish.
