Gah, I love how while Rick tends to have pretty low empathy, he still empathizes with people who have lost loved ones. Obviously, there's the old man in the seat. Where Rick didn't kill Tony after hearing that Tony's wife died. He even paid respects at his funeral, even giving his dad a cloning kit to make a new son. And regretting that he didn't become his friend.

My favorite example of this thought HAS to be in analyze piss. When Pissmaster's daughter came to the door, he could've left immediately, which is what he would've done if she didn't say "Dad?" You can instantly see Rick's face change as soon as he heard that. But the final straw? The one that made Rick pretend to be Pissmaster to comfort her?

When she said, "Look, if you were ever to do something, I'd never stop blaming myself."

Sound familiar?

Like a certain mad scientist, who we know blames himself for his wife and child's death?

This was what made him decide to pretend to be Pissmaster and comfort her, saying that he wasn't going to do anything.

He also pretended to BE Pissmaster, so he can fulfill Pissmaster's final wish of wanting to prove that people don't just want to see him fail. And to give him a heroic death, this was literally at NO BENEFIT to Rick, he simply did it out of the kindness of his heart. Which is something I'd never thought I'd say in relation to Rick, but it happened! He was SUCH a good, selfless person in this episode, it's literally insane. He couldn't even bring himself to tell Jerry what had happened to Pissmaster. Which is someone who, mind you, in other seasons, he tends to despise, yet he put Jerry's feelings first here. Even when Jerry apologizes to Rick at the end, before he knows Rick isn't Pissmaster, he instantly forgave him so that Jerry would have a clean conscience. This is the same person who was going to KILL JERRY at the end of season 3.

He did tell Morty about Pissmaster's death, which wasn't cool. But it was clear that he didn't do it out of malice, wanting Morty to keep this massive secret as a way to exert control over him, which DEFINETILY sounds like something season 4 Rick would do, he just couldn't keep it in anymore. And Morty actually stood up to Rick, not keeping this secret for Rick's sake. Which is also really cool of Morty! I gotta make a post on Morty's character development too one day. Maybeeee I will if I hit 350 followers...

Hell, season 4 Rick wouldn't even DO anything season 6 Rick did in this episode, besides maybeeeee comfort Pissmaster's daughter, but even then, I'm still not totally sure.

This is why I love this old man so much (Besides some other reasons) His character development is SO GOOD! I love him sm istg.

I finally finished watching s6 you guys! 😮‍💨😮‍💨 I enjoyed coloring Rick in a super unhealthy-looking skin tone

Rewatching some of s6 tonight and and ‘Analyze Piss’ really puts into perspective how drastic Rick’s relapse is at the end of the season. Rick is actively trying to do the right thing. At the same time, the family is so supportive of him making the effort to heal, but completely incapable of trusting that his actions aren’t malicious.

The main thing that stuck out to me on this rewatch was the bit where Rick says ‘Jerry, I give you raw power, you’ll end up miserable like me. Trust me, I’m helping by not helping.’

I think this line of thinking is a great way to explain a lot of Rick’s shitty behavior— it’s just tragic that he’s only now getting to the point where he can communicate that.

It made me wonder if this view of power is what led to some of his behavior in ‘The Vat of Acid Episode’. I think he thought giving Morty ‘raw power’ would eventually lead to Morty being ‘miserable’. Rick has experience with having power— and it fucked him up. It comes back to Rick viewing his own mind as an ‘inescapable curse’ that he wouldn’t wish upon anyone else. It’s sad to see his ability to communicate that healthily manifest itself later on, only to be met with criticism.

Just look at how he flinches:

I know that it’s his responsibility to deal with the fallout caused by his own actions, but it does hurt that the family assumes he’s trying to be shitty by refusing to help.

I think that the negative reactions the family had to his effort to communicate, especially when he opens up to Morty at the end of the episode, must have something to do with his resistance to that later in the season. He was being unfair to Morty, but I think he struggles with understanding what is and isn’t appropriate to communicate in a healthy family dynamic.

I absolutely adored the Piss suit and if I’m honest i think he suited being a bit of a crazy anti-hero. You telling me this man built a bomb, to plant and then dispose of to make himself look like a proper hero? Big fan.

Genuinely loved this episode, big fan of a lot of the motifs and just general feel. Loved Jerry being an avenger’s level hero and Rick also becoming one in his own strange way. (Also a big fan of Rick with eyeliner, you’re doing amazing sweetie)
