Jason’s character having a strong focus on justice would’ve been such an interesting contrast compared to Thalia.

Thalia, who is an authorive leader type, starts as lieutenant in the huntresses, uses aggressive moves like lightning and a terrifying shield.

Jason, who would have a focus on Justice, ended up in leadership rolls that he can’t stand due to the politics, is hesitant to use aggressive moves like lightning and is more likely to blast air at you.

If Hazel had been another angsty kid with zombie powers she would’ve felt boring and repetitive after Nico but she was interesting bc she explored another side of Hades/Pluto. Jason and Thalia being so similar was kinda yawn (especially when Thalia was more dynamic of the two but got less content).

And on the topic of powers it was cool to see him with air powers we know Thalia didn’t master bc of her fear of heights but he pretty much only uses it to fly which is boring? Let’s get some air bender moves. Blast air at people, little tornado idk get creative. Him flying by controlling air also seemed so extreme and out there but if it was his main strength it would make sense? He uses it as his primary fighting strategy, escape plan, distraction, everything.

THERE ARE SO MANY THEMES WOVEN INTO THEM ALL AND THEY CROSS OVER THE DIFFERENT VERSIONS. THERE ARE SONGS THAT ARE ONLY SUNG IN THE BROADWAY, BUT THEY ARE IN BOTH OF THE OTHER’S SCORES.

THERE’S A SONG “NO MATTER WHAT” IN THE BROADWAY THAT IS ALMOST NOTE FOR NOTE A SCORE PIECE IN THE ORIGINAL 1991 MOVIE.

THE MOST PROMINENT ONE IS “HOME”. THIS SONG FEATURED IN THE SCORE MORE OFTEN - THAN ANY - OTHER SONG. IT IS THE SONG THAT COMES UP WHENEVER BELLE THINKS ABOUT SPENDING HER LIFE IN THE CASTLE/WITH THE BEAST. IT PLAYS AT THE DRAMATIC “I LOVE YOU” SCENE BEFORE THE TRANSFORMATION AND IT’S JUST SO PERFECTLY FITTING.

MENKEN WAS WRITING THESE SONGS BEFORE THE BROADWAY. HE HAD WRITTEN THESE SONGS AND INCORPORATED THEM INTO THE SCORE. HE WAS WORKING THAT MUCH HARDER IN DEVELOPMENT AN NO ONE EVEN KNEW.

HE IS SO VERY CLEARLY ATTACHED AND PROUD OF THOSE SONGS TOO. HE BROUGHT THEM BACK AGAIN IN 2017. MOST PEOPLE WON’T EVEN NOTICE BUT THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY. I FEEL SO MUCH LOVE IN THEM ALL!!!!. MENKEN IS SO AMAZING AND MY LOVE FOR HIM AND HIS WORK INCREASES EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!
