Oh that rescue nearly went so very wrong so very fast... the thought that Scar could have burned himself out on the ship after he was supposed to be safe...
The trap staying on Grian's wings through the teleport, even the hermits that didn't go on world get a small look at what that world was like and Grian isn't letting them near to help no matter how much they want to.
And I keep thinking about Mumbo, the only Boatem member not part of the rescue, he finally hears Scar and Grian are coming home and he was probably so excited and then he sees them and Grian bolts off in a panic....

yess! there could've been so much to go so very wrong there. it could've been a tragedy, one way or another, and it only narrowly wasn't.
it was meant to be a joyful occasion! it was meant to be good! reunions and hope, relief and happiness. instead, we got this <3
the trap stayin on grian was awful. the hermits who didn't set foot down got to see feral vex scar, and then this. blood and fear, without all the context. even the ones who went down could never fathom a year worth of trauma and experience.
but they did see what the ship-staying crew didn't: that moment of tenderness between scar and grian. the way they both calmed down and soothed each other once they were close. the kiss scar pressed to grian's hair. that.
and they have so many questions, of course. how did they survive so long? (they're happy grian and scar survived, but it is a valid question, after witnessing this disaster!) why were there so many people after them? what happened to them? why aren't they letting their friends close? they know they're safe now... right?
(they don't.)
YES!! MUMBO. please yes yes think about mumbo. left behind. waiting waiting waiting. that whole year of not knowing if grian and scar are alive. he never gave up, because he couldn't bear it, but the grief was there, ever-present, heavy, suffocating.
mumbo became familiar with despair and the terror of the possibility of permanent loss. he kept saying, hysterical and skirting breakdowns, that they have to be out there, please keep looking. (of course the hermits would keep looking.)
the sheer relief when he finally hears that grian and scar are safe. they've been found! they're coming home!!
he goes through various stages of emotions, until he settles on nervous excitement. he's restless. all he wants to do is see them asap, tacklehug both of them, press them close, and don't let go.
... and we know that didn't happen.
