Just saw your post on the Athena and Annabeth bashing. Sorry, but wasn't Medusa raped by Poseidon for simply being pretty? I don't get it.

Thats the Roman version of the myth, basically Ovid's writing. So not Poseidon, but Neptune raped the Medusa and Minerva turned her into her monster form.

Ovid basically hated the gods, and especially Athena and Poseidon because Greeks loved them the most, they were the most respected. So most of his stories bashed Athena, and also Poseidon. Since there were the re-tellings and names Minerva&Neptune were used, they are not part of the Greek mythology ever. Ovid also hated Odysseus, because he was also favored. He also kinda turned him a rapist...

Anyway, he got kicked out of the city after his stories, but today's media loves using them and giving false information. At least dont call them Greek, right? So most people still think Athena and Poseidon are guilty for Medusa. But in the og myth, the true Greek version, Medusa is born Gorgon. She was always a monster to begin with. She never served Athena and Poseidon never raped her. It is all today's medias or new re-tellings.

Rewatching Leverage again and in The Miracle Job, we get references to Sophie playing Willy Loman and I decided to refresh myself as to which play Death of a Salesman is real quick.

And god I forgot the maybe-ridiculous level of disdain I have for it.

I just find it really vexing when this play is being called "The Great American Play" and a piece of art that's relevant to all of us and it being hailed as this seminal, timeless work that everyone should read or see, when any women in the play are just cardboard cut-outs.

And cardboard cut-outs that represent two of the most frustrating roles you see women in within media.

Linda is this perfect wife and mother who is constantly trying to mend the fences between her husband and her sons and always trying to make her husband's life easier and just running this house while their family is breaking down and she doesn't have a single complex emotion about any of it. No, no, all these feelings and thoughts and breakdowns are for the men.

Meanwhile, the other woman is quite literally the other woman. She's there so Willy can cheat on his wife and Biff can see it and it can cause tremendous strain on their relationship and that's about it. She's there to seduce the hard-working salesman and be all seductress about it.

Like I get that the play is good in other areas in it's critiques of individualism and capitalism and the American Dream, but it's just real hard to care about that when it treats women as constructs for the rest of the play to work around.
